Volleyball Has Three Matches This Week

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State volleyball team (10-6, 3-4 NSIC) looks to get back to the winning way with three matches this week in the always difficult NSIC. The program starts the week with a 6 p.m. contest against Bemidji State (3-12, 0-7 NSIC) on Oct. 3 at BSU Gymnasium in Bemidji. The program then return home to Halenbeck Hall to take on No. 2 nationally ranked Concordia-St. Paul (14-1, 7-0 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. and Minnesota State (9-6, 3-4 NSIC) on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m.

This Week's Opponents / Series History

Bemidji State has lost eight matches in a row entering this week.
The program was swept on the road over the weekend by a pair of ranked opponents in No. 17 Augustana and No. 22 Wayne State College
Sam Leach leads the team in both kills (100) and assists (305).
She also had six service aces.
Emma Hallman has total 22 service aces plus 174 digs.
Julie Touchett has recorded 10 service aces and 42 blocks
Maddie Filipiak has a team-high 43 blocks
The Huskies defeated BSU by a 3-1 count earlier this season (9/14/17) with Becca Gruber totaling a career-high 16 kills in the first home match of the campaign.
The Beavers lead the all-time series with SCSU 56-42 since the schools starting playing in 1973.
Concordia-St. Paul is one of the Division II national powers in volleyball and have won eight national championships (2007-2013 & 2016)
CSP are currently ranked second nationally and haven't spent time outside of the top 10 since 2003 and have only spent a total of one week outside the top five since 2013
The program has spent a total of 77 weeks ranked No. 1 since 2003 all under the watchful eye of head coach Brady Starkey
The Golden Bears have only lost once this season in four sets in a non-conference match against current No. 1 Southwest Minnesota State in a pre-conference tournament in Colorado.
CSP beat MSU Moorhead 3-1 and No. 14 Northern State 3-0 over the weekend.
So far this season, Concordia-St. Paul has beaten four ranked teams.
Brooklyn Lewis leads the team with her 209 kills (3.67 per set) while hitting .307
Mariya Sampson has 173 kills (3.09 per set) and is hitting .232
Sara Maceck has put up 149 kills (2.98 per set) while hitting .401
She also leads the team with 42 blocks
Hope Schiller has 154 kills, 19 service aces and 186 digs.
Erin Fallert leads the team with her 20 service aces
Elizabeth Mohr is the team's leader in assists with 758
Tori Hanson leads the team with her 188 digs
The match is also the "Dig Pink" match where all fans that wear pink can get in for free.
Concordia St. Paul leads the all-time series with St. Cloud 23-1 since the schools started playing in 1975.
Minnesota State plays a match against Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Oct. 6, before coming to St. Cloud.
The program lost to No. 14 Northern State last weekend in three sets, but rallied to beat MSU Moorhead in a five-set match on the road.
Sydney Powell leads the team with her 163 kills.
Powell also has 18 service aces.
Micayla Porter is the club leader in both assists (281) and service aces (20).
Autumn Risch has 259 assists.
Mara Quam is the team leader with 212 digs.
Anissa Janzig sports 37 blocks
Alivia Garbe has 127 kills and 132 digs.
The match is Alumni Day where the program encourages past SCSU volleyball players to attend.
The Huskies are 53-49 all-time against Minnesota State since the teams started playing against each other in 1970.

St. Cloud State lost a pair of road matches over the weekend to top ranked Southwest Minnesota State (3-0) and receiving votes Sioux Falls (3-1).
The program was led on the week by 20 kills (2.82 per set) from senior Nicole Miller.
She also totaled 24 digs (3.43 per set).
Senior Kayla Crane led the team with three service aces.
Freshman Taylor Olstad had 19 digs.
Sophomore Clara Krenz led the team on the week with 32 digs.
Krenz leads the NSIC in both total digs (323) and digs per set (5.77).
She ranks 21st nationally in digs per set as well.
Krenz is also placed 14th in the conference in service aces (18).
Miller is 12th in the NSIC in service aces (19), 13th in attacks per set (8.73), 15th in aces per set (0.34), 15th in digs per set (3.43), 18th in kills (158), 22nd in kills per set (2.82) and 23rd in points per set (3.30).
Crane is 14th in the league in assists (6.07) and total assists (340).
She is 21st in service aces (16).
Freshman Maddy Torve is 18th in assists per set (4.61) and total assists (258).
Sophomore Marah Mulso is 13th in total blocks (46) and 15th in blocks per set (0.87).
Senior Becca Gruber is 22nd in total kills (151) and 24th in kills per set (2.75)
The program has a 2-1 record in home matches this season including an upset sweep of then No. 18 Wayne State on Sept. 23.
The team has an impressive 7-3 mark in three-set matches this season.
In the NSIC team rankings, SCSU is second in team attacks per set (39.0), third in service aces (87), digs per set (17.27) and total attacks (2,184), fourth in total digs (967), sixth in kills (740) and aces per set (1.55).
The program is also seventh in total assists (686).

St. Cloud State gets back on the road next and travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
The program keeps the road trip going and plays against Winona State on Oc.t 14 at 3 p.m.
The program is 9-10 against Upper Iowa since the two schools first squared off in 2004. SCSU is 38-17 all-time against Winona State since the first match in 1969.
The team returns home to Halenbeck Hall to host University of Mary on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. and Minot State on Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.
