Men’s Basketball Rolls To 69-57 Win Over Minnesota Crookston on Friday

Crookston, Minn. – Junior Brindley Theisen scored a game-high 19 points to lead the St. Cloud State men's basketball team (4-2, 1-0 NSIC) to a 69-57 road victory over Minnesota Crookston (3-4, 1-1 NSIC) on Friday, Dec. 1, at Lysaker Gymnasium
Theisen shot 6-for-9 from the field and knocked down five threes plus two free throws in scoring his 19 points. Junior Sean Smith nearly had his second straight double-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Smith was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Sophomore Trevon Marshall provided a spark off the bench with 13 points and three assists. Senior Jon Averkamp totaled nine points and six rebounds (three offensive). Senior Andy Foley had five points and seven rebounds. Freshman Tristen Hull picked up six points and five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles were by Harrison Cleary's 14 points. Cleary also had nine rebounds and six assists. Gable Smith was credited with 10 points, six rebounds, two steals and five blocks. Chase Knickerbocker recorded 10 points.
The Huskies shot 44.4 percent from the field (23-for-52), 42.9 percent from three-point range (6-for-14) and 89.5 percent from the free throw line (17-for-19). UMC were limited to 34.5 percent shooting (19-for-55) from the field, 22.2 percent from three-point range, while hitting 83.3 percent of their free throws (15-for-18). The Huskies were outrebounded in the game 34-33. It was the first time this season that the Huskies have been outrebounded in a game and won.
The Huskies led from start to finish in a dominating effort. The team had a 32-25 halftime lead and also won the second half 37-32. The program's largest lead with 15 points when Marshall had a driving layup to put the team up 56-41 with 9:40 remaining in the game.
St. Cloud State men's basketball continues NSIC play and head to Bemidji State for a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday, Dec. 2.
