Men’s Basketball Runs Away With 96-62 Win Over Bemidji State

Bemidji, Minn. – Senior Jon Averkamp and junior Gage Davis both scored 25 points to lead the St. Cloud State men's basketball team (5-2, 2-0 NSIC) to a 96-62 road victory over Bemidji State (4-4, 1-2 NSIC) on Saturday, Dec. 2, at BSU Gymnasium.
Averkamp shot 10-for-16 from the field and hit a pair of threes in scoring his 25 points. He also had five rebounds and a block. The game was the first of the season for Davis. He came off the bench to score his 25 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field plus three three-point field goals and four made free throws in as many attempts. He also led the team with his nine rebounds. Junior Brindley Theisen reached double figures with 11 points. He also had four rebounds and two assists. Senior Andy Foley had six points, four rebounds and two steals. Junior Adam Heede-Andersen led the team with five assists and tied for the team lead with two steals. Junior Jace Kitchen had five points. Freshman Tristen Hull picked up career-highs of six points and seven rebounds. Junior Sean Smith totaled four points, six rebounds and a block.
The Beavers had four players reach double figures with Lucas Wendt, Sharif Black and Jacob McNallan all scoring 14 points. Jai'Vionne Black recorded 12 points. Black led the team with his six rebounds.
The Huskies shot 56 percent from the field (40-for-72), 41 percent from three-point range (9-for-22) and 78 percent from the free throw line (7-for-9). The team also had 46 rebounds, 15 assists and eight steals. The Beavers were limited to 33 percent shooting from the field (20-for-60), 30 percent from three-point range (10-for-30) and 75 percent from the free throw line (12-for-16).
SCSU led from start to finish with not even a tied score at any point once the ball was tipped. The team's largest lead was 39 points on an Averkamp layup with 6:06 remaining in the second half, 84-45. SCSU led at halftime 55-20 and coasted to the victory.
St. Cloud State men's basketball returns home to host Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State next weekend. The program takes on the Cougars on Friday night, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. The team then takes on the Mustangs on Saturday night, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.
