SCSU Swimming and Diving to open NCAA championships on Mar. 8

The St. Cloud State University women's swimming and diving team will begin competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. on Wednesday, March 8. Â The championship will run through the final day of competition on Saturday, March 11 at the CrossPlex pool.
The SCSU women's team has qualified three individual swimmers and five relay teams for the championships.  SCSU also qualified two women divers for the NCAA championship and one qualifier in the men's diving competition.  The SCSU divers at the NCAA championships included Lonie Anderson and Britin Thomsen in the women's competition and Scott Stelick in the men's events.  In the pre-qualification competition on Tuesday, March 7, none of the SCSU divers advanced to the final rounds of competition at the NCAA championships.
In the swimming events, SCSU's Andrea Bryson will be in action with the 50 freestyle trials in the first session of the day on Mar. 8.  SCSU will also be swimming in the 200 medley relay trials, which will also take place during the opening session on Mar. 8.  The 200 medley relay team consists of SCSU's Ashley Wilson, Bryson, Emily Tiedemann and Chelsea Gehrke.  The trials session gets underway at 10:30 a.m.  The top finishers in the trials will advance to the finals, which begin at 6 p.m. on Mar. 8 at the CrossPlex.
On Mar. 9, the day will begin with the 200 free relay trials for the Huskies. Â SCSU's 200 free relay squad consists of Bryson, Tiedemann, Chehrke and Bridget Opdahl. Â Ashley Wilson will be swimming in the 400 IM trials and Bryson will be competing in the 200 free trials on Mar. 9. Â The final event of the Mar. 9 trials for the Huskies will be the 400 medley relay, which includes Wilson, Tiedemann, Gehrke and Opdahl. Â The finals of all of these events will begin at 6 p.m. on Mar. 9.
In action on Mar. 10, SCSU's Tiedemann will swim in the 100 back trials and the Huskies' 800 free relay will also compete that day. Â The 800 free relay team consists of Bryson, Madeline Franklin, Wilson and Opdahl. Â The finals on Mar. 10 will also start at 6 p.m.
In the final day of the championships on Mar. 11, Bryson will swim in the 100 freestyle event and she will also take part in the 400 freestyle relay event along with teammates Tiedemann, Gehrke and Opdahl. Â The finals on Mar. 11 are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
The SCSU women's team recently claimed its third consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title in 2017.  In the final TYR / CSCAA Division II Poll of the season, SCSU received a #25 ranking.
