Welcome back, Husky baseball fans to the unofficial-official inside look of St. Cloud State Baseball's regional tournament journey. For those of you who have not been tracking our travels, feel free to follow us on our website at scsuhuskies.com and snapchat @Scsu_bb for more updates on the tournament as well as the previous blogs of our trip.
Â
The last day of our trip in Emporia started off with a very eventful morning. Senior pitcher and proud member of the Instagram community, Miles Nablo set a team record for most pancakes eaten at the hotel breakfast in one sitting. Logan Swann, senior outfielder and story-teller, performed his infamous spot-on impression of a fire alarm. Luke Hansen, senior pitcher and electricity protester, showed us the scarf he has been knitting throughout our trip in Emporia. Senior pitcher and clock watcher, David Kroger painted a portrait for us of a loose ferret he befriended from our former hotel. Senior pitcher and squirrel chaser, Austin Caspersen showcased his Hawaiian shirt collection that he has back home in Nebraska.
Our senior class has shared their quirky talents with the underclassmen and we hope to continue the traditions in Marco Polo, predicting the weather on a daily basis and comparing each other's results in various Facebook quizzes. But our senior class is more than just a bunch of great guys, they are great guys who know how to have a positive impact on those around them.
Husky baseball is notorious for producing great leaders on and off the field in the way that we are brought through the program by Coach Dolan and the seniors together. I remember watching ESPN 2 with my roommates early in the season and seeing the analysts predict the Huskies to finish .500 and for the season to be a "re-building year."
This was a tough pill to swallow for multiple reasons, for one – news is typically not in pill form and is usually only "digested" mentally rather than physically. And two, we were constantly reminded by our coaching staff and the seniors that nothing in baseball, or in life, is just handed to you.
Â
"The lessons learned from playing with this group of seniors and under this coaching staff are what will stick with each player for the years to come, on and off the field."
Because of this message, the common theme for our season became grinding through adversity to seize opportunities. The lessons learned from playing with this group of seniors and under this coaching staff are what will stick with each player for the years to come, on and off the field.
Â
So, thank you, to the seniors and the coaching staff, on behalf of the rest of the underclassmen for trusting the process and continuing to implement the positive and winning culture that is Husky baseball. Our program as a whole would like to give a sincere thank you to the families of all of our players and coaches for sacrificing time at home or at work to travel and watch us play wherever our schedule took us. Your endless support from the fall season all the way through this final weekend in Emporia is what has been the backbone of this team's success. Because without backbones, or just bones in general, skeletons are not able to hold themselves up.
Â
Also, thank you to Tom Nelson for allowing me to ramble on about our days here in Emporia and write these daily blogs. I hope our readers were able to gain a glimpse of how fun this trip was, and just how much fun we have here in Huskyland.
Â
Until next year… Go Huskies!
