FRESHMAN LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.) has stepped in immediately and been a go-to bat in the middle of the lineup for the Huskies, leading the team in numerous offensive categories and all NSIC batters in on-base percentage (.539) and walks (26). In addition to those two categories, Cahoon leads the Huskies in batting average (.384) while ranking third in slugging percentage (.493) and fifth in hits (28).
Cahoon had five hits against Southwest Minnesota State on March 29, which is tied for the most hits in a single game by an NSIC hitter this season and the most by a SCSU hitter since John Nett had five on April 30, 2023, against Minnesota Duluth.
CASTRO AND MORENO KEEP RACKING
Since joining the Huskies ahead of the 2025 season, junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been an extra base machine, hitting 29 last season (16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs) before adding another 20 (10 doubles, four triples, four home runs) through 27 games this season. Castro's 29 extra base hits in 2025 led all Huskies and ranked just outside the top-10 on SCSU's single season all-time list.
Castro leads the Huskies in OPS (1.289), doubles (10), triples (four), home runs (six) and slugging percentage (.735). He ranks among the NSIC's top-10 in numerous offensive categories, ranking first in triples (four), sixth in doubles (10), sixth in slugging percentage (.735) and eighth in OPS (1.189).
Redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) was named the NSIC Player of the Week after hitting .625 (10-for-16) in a four-game sweep of Northern State at US Bank Stadium on Feb. 26 and 28. Moreno was red hot at the plate in the sweep, hitting .625 (10-for-16) with a double, six RBI, eight runs and five stolen bases. He recorded a .667 OBP% and .688 SLG% for a whopping 1.355 OPS. The Husky senior had two or more hits in three of the four games, including a 4-for-4 with three runs in the 11-1 win on Thursday. Moreno swiped a bag in each game and had two in Saturday's 15-8 win. Following the 10-for-16 performance, Moreno raised his average from .200 to .389.
On the season, he is hitting .371 with a .904 OPS, one home run, seven doubles, 17 RBI, 25 runs and a team-leading 11 stolen bases. His 39 hits rank fifth among all NSIC hitters, while his 11 stolen bases rank ninth.
