ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (18-23, 14-14 NSIC) closed out their five-game home stretch with a pair of losses against Sioux Falls (22-19, 18-10 NSIC) on Wednesday. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first inning of game one and held on for a 9-4 win before powering their way to a 13-8 victory in game two.

Sioux Falls got the doubleheader started with a strong first inning, bringing nine batters to the plate and scoring five runs. The Cougars recorded five singles, including a bunt single, and one walk in the frame.
SCSU would put together a response in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Austin Baumhover (Van Meter, Iowa) walked with one out before senior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) singled to put two runners aboard. Junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) ripped a ground ball down the left field line for a double to score Baumhover. With two outs, redshirt junior Hayden Frank (St. Michael, Minn.) beat out an infield single to bring home Tweet and cut the deficit to 5-2.
Both starters settled in and the game went without further offense until the fourth inning. Redshirt junior Max Robinson (St. Michael, Minn.) led off with a double and scored on redshirt junior Hayden Konkol's (Denmark, Wis.) one-out RBI single. Redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) followed with a single and went to second on the throw, putting the tying run in scoring position. A lineout and groundout followed to keep the Cougars in front 5-3.
In the top of the fifth, Sioux Falls loaded the bases with two outs. The Huskies were close to escaping trouble but a groundball single beat the SCSU defensive shift and plated two to increase the lead to 7-3. The Huskies would score a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases on a single and two hit-by-pitches. With two outs, Konkol was the third hit-by-pitch victim of the inning to force in a run.
The Cougars rounded out the offense in the seventh, scoring two more insurance runs on a sacrifice fly and RBI single to build the lead to 9-4.
