Huskies, Jimmies will play first games as NSIC opponents
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (18-23, 14-14 NSIC) will hit the road this weekend, traveling to face Jamestown (12-29, 7-21 NSIC) in a three-game series. With just eight games remaining in the regular season, this series marks a crucial stretch for the Huskies. SCSU currently holds the final playoff spot in the NSIC and sit just one game above Concordia-St. Paul in the standings.
SCSU and Jamestown will meet for the first time as conference opponents, as the Jimmies joined the NSIC this season. The programs have met just once prior, a 16-6 SCSU win back in 2014 in Tucson, Ariz.

LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies were swept in a doubleheader against Sioux Falls on Wednesday at Joe Faber Field. USF got out to a quick start, scoring five times in the first inning of game one and holding the lead despite a couple of Huskies' rallies, winning 9-4.
Junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) picked up an RBI double for the Huskies, while redshirt junior Hayden Frank (St. Michael, Minn.) and redshirt junior Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) added RBI singles.
In the second game, the Cougars led 2-0 through four innings. Castro hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game, but Sioux Falls responded with seven runs over the next two innings to go up 9-1. SCSU had traffic on the bases in the sixth but grounded into a triple play.
In the seventh, the Huskies broke through for six runs, all with two outs. Redshirt freshman Jack Clark (Solon, Iowa) hit his first career triple in the inning. A grand slam from Sioux Falls in the eighth would put the game out of reach and give the Cougars the 13-8 win.
THE BRYCE IS RIGHT
In his second season with SCSU, senior Bryce Brassfield (Gilbert, Ariz.) has been lights out in the rotation for the Huskies. Brassfield leads the team in innings pitched (58.1), strikeouts (73), complete games (2), and is tied for the team lead in wins (3). He's already surpassed his junior season where he struck out 65 batters in 66.1 innings of work.
Brassfield has also been one of the top pitchers in the conference, leading the NSIC in strikeouts (73) and complete games (2), while ranking fourth in innings pitched (58.1).
Brassfield has pitched into the sixth inning in each of his last five starts, totaling 40 strikeouts in that span. He set a new career-high for single-game strikeouts on April 8 against Minnesota Crookston, striking out 11 while throwing seven innings for his second complete game of the season.
FRESHMAN LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.) has stepped in immediately and been a go-to bat in the middle of the lineup for the Huskies, leading the team and ranking fourth among all NSIC batters in on-base percentage (.506), while leading the team and conference in walks (40). In addition to those two categories, Cahoon is fifth on the Huskies in batting average (.321) while ranking second in triples (2) and OPS (.928), sixth in slugging percentage (.422), and seventh in hits (35).
Cahoon had five hits against Southwest Minnesota State on March 29, which is tied for the most hits in a single game by an NSIC hitter this season and the most by a SCSU hitter since John Nett had five on April 30, 2023, against Minnesota Duluth. Cahoon drew one walk in the series against Minot State, tying him for second all-time in SCSU single-season history.

WIL-MIS THAT BALL CASTRO
Since joining the Huskies ahead of the 2025 season, junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been an extra-base machine, hitting 29 last season (16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs) before adding another 27 (14 doubles, four triples, nine home runs) through 40 games this season. Castro's 29 extra-base hits in 2025 led all Huskies and ranked just outside the top 10 on SCSU's single-season all-time list.
Castro leads the Huskies in batting average (.380), OPS (1.187), hits (54), doubles (14), triples (four), home runs (nine), runs (32), RBIs (34), and slugging percentage (.725). LARSON DEALING
In his redshirt freshman season, Conner Larson (Jordan, Minn.) has been steadily putting up zeros on the mound for SCSU. Larson has made seven appearances, including three starts, totaling 26.1 innings pitched. He's allowed earned runs in just two of those outings for a 4.10 ERA, and opposing batters are hitting just .172 against the righthander, the lowest mark on the team (minimum 5.0 innings pitched).
Larson last pitched against Minot State on April 19, making the start and working six innings and allowed just two runs, both unearned. Across his last three outings (16.1 innings), Larson has not allowed an earned run.
