Eight different players record hits in crucial NSIC victory
The offensive parade got started early for the Huskies, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. With one out, redshirt freshman Max Robinson (St. Michael, Minn.) and junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) singled to put two runners on. Senior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) ripped an RBI double to the right-center gap to plate Robinson and senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) followed with an RBI single to drive in Castro.
Jamestown would answer right back, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame on three singles, a stolen base, and a throwing error by the Huskies to tie the score 2-2.
In the top of the second, freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.) and redshirt junior Hayden Frank (St. Michael, Minn.) walked. With one out, Robinson launched his second homer of the year to right-center field for a three-run shot. Castro followed with a laser to center field for a solo home run, going back-to-back and putting SCSU up 6-2. In the home half of the inning, Jamestown hit back-to-back homers of their own to score three and cut the Huskies lead down to one.
The Huskies continued their pressure in the third, as redshirt senior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) led off with a single and stole second. Bello would score on an RBI single from sophomore Austin Baumhover (Van Meter, Iowa). Robinson followed with another base hit, before Castro and Tweet recorded back-to-back RBI singles to make it 9-5 Huskies.
The Jimmies hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it a three-run game once again as the Huskies were held off the board in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the sixth, redshirt senior Josh McGuin (Toronto, Ontario) lined a pinch-hit double down the right field line and moved to third on a Bello single. Baumhover followed with a two-run double to increase the Huskies lead up to 11-6. Jamestown would get one back in the bottom half, as a double, single, and groundout gave the Jimmies their seventh run.
SCSU would tack on another two runs in the seventh, as two singles and a walk loaded the bases. Bello was then hit by a pitch, forcing in one run, before senior Nick Ibrahim (Woodbury, Minn.) grounded out to second to bring home another run.
Ahead 13-8 after seven innings, the Huskies would break the game open in the eighth. Frank led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Tweet followed with an RBI single to score Frank, then Moreno and McGuin worked walks to load the bases. That brought up Bello, who crushed a grand slam to right-center to make it 18-7. Senior Connor Doolittle (Littleton, Col.) came on in the bottom of the eighth and got the final three outs to end the game by way of the run rule.
