Huskies show well in dual meets against Division I opponent SDSU

The St. Cloud State men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed a busy weekend with a pair of dual meets against NCAA Division I rival South Dakota State on Saturday, Jan. 13. Â In the women's dual, SDSU scored a 177-123 victory over the Huskies and the Jackrabbits posted a 170-130 win over the Huskies in the men's dual.
The Huskies enjoyed several top performances on the day, which also included a special salute to the SCSU seniors before a packed house in the Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Complex.
In the women's competition, SCSU's Jen Thompson scored first place finishes in the 50 freestyle at 24.63 and in the 100 freestyle at 53.81.  Teammate Ashley Wilson added a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.33 and Britin Thomsen was first in the 1M diving event with a score of 243.30.  SCSU's 200 free relay also gained a top place on the day with a time of 1:39.64.
Brian Burke was a top peformer for the SCSU men with a winning time of 1:43.89 in the 200 freestyle and a top place in the 100 butterfly at 51.50. Â Anthony Schwartz was a double winner with a first place in the 100 backstroke at 52.04 and a winning time of 1:54.91 in the 200 backstroke. Â In the 200 butterfly, Robert Leigh was first at 1:57.57 and the men's 200 free relay team placed first with a score of 1:25.89.
SCSU will next compete at the conference meets for 2018. Â The men's team will swim at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference on Feb. 21-24 in Cleveland, Miss. Â The women's team will next swim at the 2018 NSIC championships in Fargo, N.D. on Feb. 14-17.
