St. Cloud State to defend NSIC Swim and Dive championship this week

Three-time defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion St. Cloud State University will compete at the 2018 NSICÂ Swimming and Diving Championships this week.
The 2018 NSIC championships will take place Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 14-17 at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota, hosted by Minnesota State University Moorhead. Seven teams will compete over four days for the NSIC Championship.
Trial sessions will begin each day at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. each night. The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as NSIC All-Conference during the meet. A Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, Freshman of Year, Swim Coach of the Year and Dive Coach of the Year will also be voted on by the coaches during the event. Finally, at the conclusion of the meet, the swimmer with the most points will be named the NSIC Swimmer of the Meet and the diver with the most points will be named NSIC Diver of the Meet.

St. Cloud State is the three-time defending NSIC Swimming & Diving Champions, taking home the titles in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2016-17. The NSIC sponsored swimming & diving during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years with affiliated members. In the 2016-17 season swimming & diving returned as the NSIC's 18thsport as Augustana University, the University of Mary, and the University of Sioux Falls added the sport, joining Minnesota State, MSU Moorhead, Northern State and St. Cloud State.
SCSU was ranked #35 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com DII National Rankings and SCSU received votes in the latest TYR/CSCAA DII national poll. According to the recent CollegeSwimming.com rankings, SCSU's Britin Thomsen ranks 11th in the 3M Diving and 13th in the 1M diving individual polls as of Jan. 29. Teammate Annaleisa Anderson is ranked 12th in the 3M diving polls.
Last year, the Huskies topped the field with 1069 points, while Minnesota State Mankato placed second with 867 points.  Minnesota State Moorhead was third at 734 and Northern State was fourth at 510.  Augustana (368), Sioux Falls (298) and Mary (258) completed the team scoring.
Individually, St. Cloud State's Thomsen received the NSIC DIver of the Year Award and the Huskies' Kayla Deters was selected as the NSIC Diving Coach of the Year. Along with Thomsen, Huskies to watch at the meet this year include returning All-NSIC performers Andrea Bryson (50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 400 free and the 400 free relay), Lindsey Lewis (500 free and 1650 free), Annie Hart (200 back), Chelsea Gehrke (100 breaststroke, 400 free relay), Ashley Wilson (200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM) and Lonie Anderson (1M and 3M diving).
The Huskies are led on the deck by head coach Jeff Hegle, who is in his 17th season at the helm of the SCSU men's and women's swim and dive progams.
The NSICÂ meet will be another proving ground for the Huskies as they strive to qualify athletes for the upcoming 2018 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships in Greensboro, N.C. on March 14-17.
