Huskies earn Swimmer of the Year and Diver of the Year honors

WEST FARGO, N.D. – The St. Cloud State University women's swimming and diving team completed competition at the 2018 NSIC championships with a second place finish. The Huskies finished competition on Saturday, Feb. 17 with 952.5 team points, while Minnesota State won first place honors with 973 points to knock-off the three-time defending NSIC champion Huskies. The championships were held in Fargo, N.D.
St. Cloud State's Andrea Bryson was voted the NSIC Swimmer of the Year and also earned NSIC Swimmer of the Meet as she scored the most individual points. Teammate Britin Thomsen was voted NSIC Diver of the Year and also earned NSIC Diver of the Meet honors. SCSU's Kayla Deters was voted NSIC Diver Coach of the Year.
Bryson won the 50-yard freestyle in an NSIC record time of 23:23, the 200-yard freestyle in and NSIC record time of 1:50.00, the 500-yard freestyle in an NSIC record time of 4:58.39 and the 100-yard freestyle at the 2018 championships. Thomsen won the 1-meter diving and was second in the 3-meter diving competition.
In the final day of action, SCSU;s Bryson won the 100 free style with a pool record time of :50.54. Teammate Chelsea Gehrke also earned All-NSIC honors with a time of :51.74 in the event. In the 200 backstroke, Annie Hart earned All-NSIC honors with a third place time of 2:01.93. SCSU's Ashley Wilson placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:22.40.
SCSU domination in the diving competition continued as the Huskies claimed the top four spots in the 3M competition. Alyssa Doherty won the event with a score of 438.20, while teammate Britin Thomsen also earned All-NSIC recognition with 437.55 points. The top four was completed by SCSU's Annaliesa Anderson in fourth place at 413.20 and Lonie Anderson with a score of 399.20.
To cap the weekend, SCSU's 400 free relay placed second with a time of 3:25.71. the team was comprised of Andrea Bryson, Alexis Burroughs, Chelsea Gerhke and Jen Thomspon.
The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as All-NSIC performers.
The NCAA will announce the field for the NCAA Championships on March 1. The NCAA Championships, which are held in Greensboro, N.C., take place on March 14-17.
