
#3/5 Huskies sweep Nanooks with 6-2 victory on Oct. 13 on the road

The Huskies battled back from two early deficits to cruise to the victory with five unanswered goals in the second and third periods.
UAF opened the night's scoring at 13:28 of the first with a goal by Brennan Blaszczak. The Huskies quickly replied with senior forward Jacob Benson's first goal of the season at 16:12 of the first period. He capitalized on a rebound in front of the net on a pair of assists from Patrick Newell and Jack Ahcan.
The Nanooks punched back at 4:57 of the second period with an even-strength marker by Ryker Leer to make it 2-1. Less than 17 seconds later, SCSU tied the game up at 2-2 with sophomore forward Kevin Fitzgerald's first goal of the new season at 5:13 of the second. Nick Poehling coined the lone assist on the play for SCSU. ÂAll tied at 1-1 in the first thanks to this goal by Jacob Benson on the rebound from Jack Ahcan's shot. @SCSUHUSKIES_MH at UAF on Oct. 13. #unleashSCSU pic.twitter.com/Zi5jDxvOxh

In the third period, senior forward Robby Jackson made it 4-2 with his first goal of the season at 6:03. Ryan Poehling and Easton Brodzinski each had assists on the play. Jackson made it two for the night with his second goal of the game at 13:53 of the third. Ryan Poehling had the assist on the play, which was his third assist of the season.

On the night, SCSU also dominated the scoresheet as it outshot the Nanooks 36-22. SCSU's Jeff Smith had 20 saves in the game and earned the goalie victory for the Huskies. On special teams, SCSU was a perfect 6-of-6 on the penalty kill and the Huskies were 0-of-3 on the power play.
