LEAGUE CHAMPS:  SCSU clinched the NCHC regular season title with its four point weekend vs. Denver in 2017-18.  This marks the second time in team history that SCSU has won the Penrose Cup (first was in 2013-14) and the third time SCSU has won a regular season league title during the DI era.  SCSU also won the WCHA regular season crown in 2012-13.  As a DIII affiliate, SCSU won the NCHA league title in 1986-87.Â
HOMECOMING SWEEP:  SCSU gained its second consecutive weekend sweep of the season with 4-1 and 5-0 wins over Northern Michigan on Oct. 19-20, which helped the Huskies celebrate Homecoming 2018 on campus.  The game on Oct. 19 marked the first victory for new head coach Brett Larson at the HBNHC. Â
NET GAIN:  Jeff Smith earned his second shutout as a Husky with a 5-0 win over NMU on Oct. 20.  Last year, Smith posted a 4-0 win at Minnesota State on Oct. 7, 2017.  This was SCSU's first shutout of the 2018-19 season and the team's first shutout since a 4-0 win at Miami on Feb. 10...of note, Smith's first shutout as a college goalie was during his season at UMass-Lowell as he posted a 5-0 win over Northeastern on Nov. 8, 2014 with 20 saves.  Both SCSU goalies (Smith and David Hrenak) own perfect 2-0-0 records in 2018-19.  To cap his weekend, Smith gained a rare offensive point with his assist on Kevin Fitzgerald's goal on Oct. 20.  The last time a SCSU gained an assist was a point by Charlie Lindgren on Oct. 12, 2013 against Bemidji State at the HBNHC.

THE NUMBERS TELL THE STORY:  The Huskies are off to a 4-0-0 start thanks to strong play on both ends of the ice.  The Huskies are outscoring their opponents 18-5 this season and they are outshooting their opponents 129-71.  Of note, the 10 shots allowed by the Huskies vs. NMU on Oct. 20 are the fewest in a game for the Huskies dating back to at least the 1999-00 season, when evidence of those stats started to be available. Â
MILESTONE MARKS:  Patrick Newell scored his 80th career point as a Husky on Oct. 20.  He now has 21g/59a in 110 games played...Robby Jackson added two assists this weekend and now only needs 14 more points to join the Huskies' coveted 100-point club.  He currently has notched 35g/51a during his tenure at SCSU.  He is SCSU's top active career point leader, while captain Jimmy Schuldt has 84 points (29g/55a)...Jacob Benson scored his 25th career goal vs. NMU on Oct. 20.
