Huskies Outmatch Cougars in Exhibition Opener

ST. CLOUD, MINN. - In their exhibition home opener, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (0-0, 0-0 NSIC) defeated the Minnesota Morris Cougars (0-0, 0-0 UMAC) 61-35 on Nov. 7, 2018 in Halenbeck Hall.
In a contest where the Huskies did not allow Minnesota Morris to hold a lead at any point in the game, SCSU used an early 19 point lead after one quarter of play to control the momentum for the duration of the night. Freshman guard, Brehna Evans shined with a 13 point performance that also included three steals, two rebounds, a block and an assist. Pacing the Huskies' offensive efforts was Madelin Dammann who charted a game-high of 15 points to go along with her four rebounds and two assists. Nikki Kilbotten and Katrina Theis each brought in six rebounds for a team-high as well. Mackenzie Uter recorded three steals and put up eight points after making the start at point guard for SCSU.
SCSU out-scored the Cougars in three out of the four quarters in Wednesday's match-up while also out-rebounding UMM 38-35. As a team, the Huskies were 20-53 (37.7%) from the field and 5-21 (23.8%) from beyond the arc. Morris shot 8-38 (21.1%) from the field and 2-15 (13.3%) from three-point land.
The Huskies return to Halenbeck Hall on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 P.M. against Valley City State (N.D.). Tickets are available at scsutickets.com, or by calling 1-877-SCSUTIX. Fans are also available at the gate on gameday.
