Huskies Open Regular Season On Saturday, Hosts Valley City State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - After a 61-35 exhibition victory over Minnesota Morris, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team will open their 2018-19 regular season at Halenbeck Hall against the Valley City State Vikings on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 PM.Â
The Huskies are coming off of another winning season where they finished 17-10 overall and 14-8 in the always rugged NSIC. SCSU was 11-3 at home in the 2017-18 season, where they also hosted a first round NSIC playoff game as well.
HOT START
15 different Huskies made an appearance in the home exhibition opener, where MadelinDammann was the leading scorer with 15 points. The junior guard also posted four rebounds and shot 50 percent (5-10) from the field. Freshman guard, Brehna Evans shined off the bench with a stellar 13 point, three steal and two assist performance in her first collegiate action. Veteran senior guard Mackenzie Uter also recorded three steals while tallying eight points. Nikki Kilbotten blocked three Cougar shots for a game-high while four different Huskies also charted a block in the contest.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Valley City State is off to a 2-3 start to the 2018-19 campaign, with a notable 67-66 victory over NSICÂ opponent Minot State in an exhibition game. Of note, The Beavers finished 11-11 last season and split with the Huskies during regular season play.
The Vikings finished with an impressive 25-3 overall record and 13-3 mark in conference play in the 2017-18 season. Notable returners include Mackenzie Huber who averaged 10.8 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game last season as well as Alli Vandal who averaged 10.5 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. Huber is the Vikings' leading scorer (13.8 PPG) and rebounder (5.8 RPG) to start the season while Vandal is averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Tori Wortz paced the Huskies' offensive efforts with an 18 point, five rebound performance in SCSU's 67-42 route of the Vikings last season. Andrea Thomas posted 16 points and five rebounds while also racking up six assists. Since 1979 the Huskies are 7-1 against Valley City.
