Sufficool wins NSISC title in 3M Diving, Huskies place 4th at Champuionships

The St. Cloud State University men's swimming and diving team finished its stay in Cleveland, Miss. with a strong final day of competition at the 2018 New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference championships on Feb. 24.
SCSU was led by diver David Sufficool, who placed first in the 3M event an NCAA qualifying score of 546.80. He helped the Huskies move into fourth place in the final team standings with a score of 488. Host team Delta State won the team title with a score of 1024, while Lindenwood was second at 936, Henderson State was second at 532.5, Texas-Permian Basin was fifth at 446 and Ouachita Baptist was sixth at 306.
The Huskies also had three top five finishes to pace the squad on Feb. 24. In the 100 freestyle, Brian Burke placed fourth with a B-Cut time of 45.09. In the 200 backstroke, Anthony Schwartz was fourth with a time of 1:50.91 and the SCSU 400 free relay team of Triston Ferguson, Conner Hickey, Joel Huth and Burke placed fourth with a time of 3:00.86.
In the 200 breaststroke, Will Nguyen placed 10th at 2:08.07 and teammate Matt Anderson was 11th at 2:08.37. David Clossey also added a 12th place finish in the 1650 freestyle at 16:39.48.
SCSU athletes who meet the qualifying standards will now advance to the NCAA Division II championships, which will be held on March 14-17 in Greensboro, N.C.
