#3/4 St. Cloud State on the road to Miami on Feb. 9-10

The #3/4 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (17-6-3, 11-4-1 NCHC) will be on the road this weekend with a pair of NCHC contests at Miami University (10-13-3, 5-9-2 NCHC). The games on Feb. 9 will start at 8 p.m. ET and the game on Feb. 10 will begin at 7:05 p.m. ET. Both games will be played at the Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio.

IN THE POLLS: The Huskies received a #3 ranking in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey Division I poll this week. SCSU also gained a #4 ranking in the USCHO.com poll this week...St. Cloud State was picked as the #2 team in the 2017-18 preseason NCHC poll. Of note, the Huskies received votes in the final USCHO.com poll of 2016-17.

PAIRWISE PREDICTIONS: In the latest Pairwise rankings (as of Feb. 6 at 4 p.m.), the Huskies were tied for first along with Notre Dame and Denver. All three teams tallied 58 points in the Pairwise poll. SCSU's strength of schedule this year is currently rated #4 in the nation.
OLYMPIC DREAMS: The USA men's hockey team will feature two SCSU Huskies at the Winter Olympic Games in 2018. Current SCSU blueliner Will Borgen has been selected to the team along with former Husky forward Garrett Roe. Borgen and Roe will join a list of 15 Huskies who have competed in the Olympics. Other former SCSU hockey players to play for Team USA include Bret Hedican (1992 and 2006), Ryan Malone (2010), Mark Parrish (2006), Matt Cullen (2006) and Andreas Nodl (2014). Of note, former Husky hockey player Rikard Gronberg will serve as head coach for Team Sweden at the 2018 Winter Games. Roe played for SCSU from 2007-11 and ranks first in the team records with 113 assists and third with 178 points (65g/113a). He is currently playing professional hockey in Switzerland this winter. Borgen has 2g/10a for the Huskies this season. Borgen departed for the games on Feb. 7.
THE WEEKEND UPDATE: The Huskies gained their sixth weekend sweep of the season with a 5-3 win on Feb. 2 and a 6-2 win on Feb. 3 against #13 Omaha. This was SCSU's first weekend sweep since Dec. 1-2 and it was its fifth sweep at home. The Huskies trailed 1-0 in the first period on Feb. 2 before coming back to gain the 5-3 win with goals provided by five different players including Judd Peterson, Nick Poehling, Mikey Eyssimont, Easton Brodzinski (GWG) and Robby Jackson (ENG). SCSU outshot the Mavs 42-18 as David Hrenak (7-4-0) made 15 saves in the win for SCSU. On Feb. 3, the Huskies scored three unanswered goals by Robby Jackson, Mikey Eyssimont and Blake Lizotte (GWG) to start the game. UNO replied with two goals to make it 3-2 before the Huskies iced the game with goals by Jake Wahlin, Will Borgen and Easton Brodzinski. SCSU outshot the Mavs 41-26 in the match. Jeff Smith gained the Saturday start with 24 saves to his credit. He is now 10-2-3 on the season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mikey Eyssimont scored two goals and two assists in the Huskies' weekend sweep of Omaha, which provided him with NCHC Offensive Player of the Week honors. A draftee of the LA Kings, Eyssimont has 11g/17a in 25 games played this season. He ranks 2nd on the team with 28 points behind team leader Robby Jackson (12g/17a/29p). He is drawing ever so close to joining SCSU's 100 point club with 91 points (39g/52a) in 101 games played. Eyssimont played in his 100th career game at SCSU on Feb. 2.
TOP OF HIS GAME: Jimmy Schuldt ranks 12th among all NCAA DI players with 21 assists (0.81 apg). He also leads all NCAA blueliners with 1.04 ppg (6g/21a). Miami's Louie Belpedio ranks second on that defensive list at 1.00 ppg (9g/17a). In his career, Schuldt has 24g/48a for 72 points. He ranks ninth in the team records for most career points scored by a defenseman. Kelly Hultgren leads the list with 107 points, while Bret Hedican is in 8th place with 77 points.
ONLY AT SCSU: St. Cloud State is the lone NCAA school in the nation with an active men's hockey player and an active women's hockey player playing hockey at the upcoming Winter Olympics. Will Borgen will play for Team USA and SCSU goalie Janine Alder will be joining the Swiss women's hockey team at the upcoming Winter Games.
TOP TWO: SCSU ranks second in the nation and tops in the NCHC with a scoring rate of 3.81 goals per game...on defense, SCSU ranks 16th among DI teams with a 2.54 goals allowed per game average...SCSU also ranks 9th in the nation on the power play at 23.3 percent (28/120).
FIRST ONE: Will Borgen scored the first power play goal of his career on Feb. 3. In 96 games played at SCSU, Borgen now has 5g/33a for 38 points.
WINNER, WINNER: Easton Brodzinski added his 5th game winner of the season on Feb. 2. He leads the team and is only two GWGs away from the season team record of 7 GWGS set by Joey Benik in 2015-16. Brodzinski has 10g/6a this season. His older brother Jonny Brodzinski had 22g/11a during his rookie season at SCSU in 2012-13. Jonny currently plays for the Los Angeles Kings.
TEAM LEADERS: Robby Jackson leads the Huskies with 12g/17a. Jimmy Schuldt leads SCSU with 21 assists, 57 blocks and a +18. Jeff Smith is 10-2-3 in the nets, while David Hrenak is tops with a .922 save rate and a 2.12 GAA.
GREAT GOALIES: David Hrenak ranks 10th in the nation with a 2.12 goals against average (25 allowed in 708:21 minutes played...he also ranks 10th in the country with a .922 save percentage (294 saves on the season)...Jeff Smith's winning percentage of .767 ranks fourth in the nation with a stellar 10-2-3 record this winter. FYI - Jase Wesloskey set the team record for best GAA at 2.11 in 2007-08.
