Huskies Prevail Over Marauders at Home, 60-53

Brianna Johnson records her second double-double of the season to help extend the Huskies' winning streak to four.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – A 16-point performance from senior, Andrea Thomas and Brianna Johnson's double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) carried the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (16-7, 13-6 NSIC) over the University of Mary Marauders (12-13, 8-11 NSIC) on Friday night at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies controlled the lead for 32:14 in a contest that consisted of six lead changes. SCSU's highest lead came with just over two minutes left in the third quarter when the club led by eight points. St. Cloud State was able to limit their turnovers and play an aggressive style of defense that consisted of 14 steals and two blocked shots. As a team, the Huskies forced 18 Marauder turnovers and scored 25 of their 60 points off of those turnovers. Amanda Christianson had four of the team's 14 steals and one block while Andrea Thomas had three steals.
After outscoring the Marauders 14-11 in the first quarter, the Huskies entered the half in a tie-ball game. A break-out nine-point and three-steal second quarter performance by Christianson paced the Huskies' offensive efforts entering the half. U-Mary's Gabbie Bohl recorded 15 points in the first half to swing the momentum in favor of the Marauders going into the break.
In the second half, the Huskies rallied behind Andrea Thomas' 11 third quarter points to regain a 49-44 lead entering the fourth quarter. Gabbie Bohl's efforts in the tail-end of the game brought the Marauders within two until Madelin Dammann unleashed her clutch jeans to sink a three-pointer with just over :30 seconds in regulation. Following Dammann's first points of the contest, Brianna Johnson added two free-throws to her double-double performance to seal the game in favor of the Huskies.
As a team, SCSU shot 24-66 (36.4 percent) from the field, 3-18 (16.7 percent) from three-point range and 9-10 (90 percent) from the free-throw line. Mallie Doucette, Joceyln Johnson and Nikki Kilboten combined for the Huskies' 10 bench points, which outscored the Marauders' eight bench points.
Gabbie Bohl's 25 point and 14 rebound double-double led the Marauders on Friday night while the next highest U-Mary scorer was Lauren Rotunda with eight points. As a team, the Marauders shot 20-49 (40.8 percent) from the field, 3-8 (37.5 percent) from three-point range and 10-15 (66.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
The Huskies will look to extend their four-game winning streak on Saturday night at 4 PM against the Minot State Beavers. The Beavers' seven game winning streak was snapped on Friday night by the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, 70-61 in Duluth. Minot State is 13-10 overall and 10-9 in NSIC play this season.
