#1 St. Cloud State scores 4-3 overtime victory at #13/14 North Dakota on Mar. 2

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (22-6-5, 16-4-3 NCHC) brought home a 4-3 overtime victory over #13/14 North Dakota thanks to a pair of goals by sophomore Ryan Poehling on Friday, March 2 before 11,923 fans at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
Poehling scored the game winner in the contest at 2:48 of the OT session with assists from Easton Brodzinski and Robby Jackson. This was Poehling's second goal of the night and it was his 11th of the season. The helped the Huskies claim a win in a roller-coaster of a game that featured two lead changes and ended regulation at 3-3.
UND opened the game's offense with a goal at 10:37 of the second by Jordan Kawaguchi. The Huskies quickly replied at 15:05 of the second with an even strength marker by Jon Lizotte, which included assists from Jack Poehling and Jimmy Schuldt. This was Lizotte's fifth goal of the season and it was Schuldt's team leading 27th assist of the year.
A Hobey Baker Award candidate for 2018, Schuldt gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at 17:19 of the second. He was assisted on the play by Robby Jackson and Easton Brodzinski. This was Schuldt's eighth goal of the year and it was his 35th point of the year. To close out the second period, UND's Christian Wolanin scored a power play marker at 19:56 to make it 2-2.
In the third period, Ryan Poehling notched his first goal of the night with an even-strength 4x4 goal that was a candidate for college hockey's goal of the year. His breakaway was set up with an assist from Jon Lizotte and was completed with an amazing between the legs move that ended with the puck in the back of the net past UND netminder Cam Johnson.
The goal gave the Huskies a 3-2 margin in the contest before UND knotted the tally with a goal by Nick Jones at 15:42 of the third period.
In the OT session, the Huskies outshot the Fighting Hawks 2-0 before Ryan Poehling ended the game with his GWG.
On the night, SCSU was outshot 32-25 as David Hrenak made 29 saves in the game. Johnson had 21 saves in the game for UND. On the power play, SCSU was 2-4 and UND was 1-4.
The two teams will complete the weekend series at the Ralph Engelstad Arena with a 7:07 p.m. game on Saturday, March 3 against North Dakota.
