Softball announces additions to 2018-19 class

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The 2018 season was a success for the St. Cloud State softball team. The Huskies posted an overall record of 35-19 and went 20-10 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, earning the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament and the No. 9 ranking in the final Midwest Regional Poll.
Spring 2018 Signing Additions:
Alexandra Pinkowski:
Pinkowski had a standout prep career playing centerfield for Prior Lake High School and playing for head coach Matt Haefner. Prior Lake was ranked No. 1 in class 4AAA throughout the 2018 season and concluded the season with a 18-2 record. Additionally, she played for the Minnesota Waves and Minnesota Irish. This summer, Pinkowski will be playing for the Minnesota A's. Pinkowski was a four-year letter winner and earned All-Conference and All-Section honors as a junior in 2017, batting .421 and an on-base percentage of .477. In 2018, Pinkowski was named a team captain, played in 14 games, batted .465 with two doubles, two triples, four stolen bases, with 21 runs scored. She was recognized as All-Conference and was selected to participate in the Minnesota High School Coaches Association All-Star Series.
Off the field, Pinkowski was a four-year Board Scholar, earning the honor from 2015 to 2018. Additionally, Pinkowski was a member of National Honors Society (NHS) in 2017 and 2018 and was a four-year honor roll student. Pinkowski intends to major in Nursing at St. Cloud State University.
Pinkowski's comments: "I chose St. Cloud Sate because it provided me the comfort of a smaller school with all the benefits of a big campus. I fell in love with the community feel, and after finding out I could continue to play softball, I knew St. Cloud State was the place for me. She is the daughter of Tim and Diana Pinkowski.
Head Coach Paula U'Ren's comments: Alexandra is going to be a high-level player that will add to our athletic, talented, and successful 2018 recruiting class. Alexandra is a player that can be game changer with her athletic ability, her intensity, drive and leadership ability. She will be a great addition to our St. Cloud State campus community as a softball student-athlete.
Lauren Kirchberg
Kirchberg put together an outstanding career at Columbus High School in Columbus Wisconsin, posting a combined record of 22-4 in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. As a pitcher, Kirchburg recorded back-to-back seasons with a sub 2.00 ERA, including an impressive 1.18 ERA as a junior in 2017. She was a two-time All-Conference and All-District honoree and was named the Conference Pitcher and Player-of-the-Year in 2016. Kirchberg was named Second Team All-State in 2017 one year after earning All-State Honorable Mention honors in 2016.
Off the field, Kirchberg graduated at the top of her class and was a four-year high honor roll student at Columbus. She was an academic letter winner and medalist and a four-year member of the Academic Bowl Team. Kirchberg was also the NHS president at Columbus High School and graduated with two athletic school records in volleyball and softball. Kirchberg intents to major in Mass Communication at St. Cloud State.
Kirchberg's comments: "I am very excited to represent SCSU as a student-athlete and have the chance to play the sport I love for four years. I fell in love with the campus and community and knew I would fit in well here." Lauren is the daughter of Dough and Heidi Kirchberg.
Coach U'Ren's comments: Lauren has had a very successful prep career at Columbus and we look for her to continue to grow and develop her game as a Husky. She has a passion for the game and is a driven competitor.
Pinkowski and Kirchberg join the 2018 signing class of infielders Raven Vanden Langenberg (Seymour, Wis.), Sydney Trees (Prior Lake, Minn.), Jasmine Estrada (Litchfield, Minn.), pitcher Sydney LaPoint (Bay Port, Wis.), and catcher Cassie Foytik (Green Bay, Wis). The Huskies will begin their 2018-2019 when the team returns to campus August 27, 2018. The fall exhibition schedule will be released on August 1, 2018.
