
St. Cloud State Softball Season Sweeps Opening Day of 2026

Huskies take down Bemidji State, Southwest Minnesota State to open Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 12, BEMIDJI STATE 8 (5 INN.)
The Beavers (0-2, 0-0 NSIC) opened the game with a two-run first half inning with a two-out, two-run home run. SCSU got one run back in the bottom half of the first when redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) hit an RBI-single.
In the bottom of the third, the Huskies tacked on eight runs on five hits. Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) mashed a three-run shot over the right field fence, junior outfielder Kurstyn Patnode (Becker, Minn.) and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) each hit a 2-RBI triple and redshirt freshman infielder Hannah Weckman (Lakeville, Minn.) came in as a pinch hitter and delivered an RBI-single.
Bemidji State added two runs in the fifth with a 2-RBI double, but SCSU ended the game in the home half after three RBI singles from Honeycutt, junior infielder Kennedy Palmer (Ankeny, Iowa) and Weiss.

- Senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) earned the win, which was the 20th of her career.
- Freshman pitcher Alyssa Kunz (Lyons, Ill.), Palmer, Patnode and Weckman all made their SCSU debuts.
SMSU (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Huskies responded with a pair of runs in the next half inning to take their first lead of the game. Weiss hit an RBI-double and Honeycutt added an RBI-single two batters later.
The Mustangs tied the game at two in the top of the sixth and the Huskies were unable to retake the lead by the end of the seventh, sending the game to extra innings. SMSU was unable to produce a run in the top of the eighth, but the Huskies loaded the bases in the bottom half and senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) delivered the walk-off RBI-single to left field.

- Palmer posted her second consecutive multi-hit game to begin her SCSU career.
- Frechette recorded her second straight multi-hit game to open the season.
- Weiss improved her on-base streak to 18 games, dating back to last year.
- Holmes extended her hit/on-base streaks to 14 games, dating back to last season.
