Huskies extend win streak to 12 games, take down Beavers 5-1 to advance to first semifinal in single elimination era
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 25 St. Cloud State Softball (45-12, 26-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) took down Minot State (34-22, 18-12 NSIC) 5-1 in the NSIC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday at Bowden Field (Augustana) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The No. 2 seed Huskies defeated the seventh seeded Beavers for their 12th consecutive win and will play in its first semifinal in the single elimination era (since 2024).
SCSU did most of its damage in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four of its five runs on three hits and four walks in an inning that spanned nearly 30 minutes. The Beavers starting pitcher was only able to record one out before being replaced and was responsible for all four Husky runs. Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) drove the first SCSU run in before senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) and redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.) hit back-to-back RBI-singles. Junior infielder Kennedy Palmer (Ankeny, Iowa) drove in the fourth run in the first at-bat after the pitching change, brining Roe home on a sacrifice fly to left field.
St. Cloud State added its fifth run of the game in the bottom of the third when junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) hit a two-out RBI-double to left field.
MSU earned its first baserunner of the game in the next half after senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) issued a one-out walk, but was unable to do anything with it, as the Huskies threw out the runner at second with a heads up play from Beck in the ensuing at bat. The Beavers scored their lone run on their lone hit, a solo home run, in the fifth inning as SCSU closed out the 5-1 victory.
