#1 Huskies battle back to score 3-1 victory at North Dakota

In a classic college hockey showdown, the #1 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (18-3-2, 10-1-2 NCHC) scored a 3-1 victory at North Dakota (12-11-1, 6-7-0 NCHC) on Friday, Jan. 25 before 11,608 fans at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Huskies relied upon three unanswered goals in the second and third periods to bring home the victory after trailing 1-0 at the end of the first period.
North Dakota opened the night with a goal by Nick Jones at 11:21 of the first period with an assist from Jordan Kawaguchi. The score stood at UND 1, SCSU 0 until the closing minute of the second period when freshman Micah Miller opened the Huskies' offense with a goal at 19:46 with assists from fellow freshmen Nolan Walker and Nick Perbix. Miller had now scored three goals this season, which includes one goal apiece in his last three games played for the Huskies.
In the third period, Patrick Newell posted his fifth game winner of the season at 13:33 with a solo assist from Walker. This was Newell's 12th goal of the year and his 97th career point as a Husky (29th career point).
To end the evening, Blake Lizotte scored an empty net goal for the Huskies at 18:48 of the third period with assists from Robby Jackson and Easton Brodzinski. This was Lizotte's eighth goal of the season and it marked the third consecutive game that the Huskies have finished a game with an empty net goal.
The victory extended SCSU's current win streak to four games and it keeps the Huskies atop the NCHC standings with a 10-1-2 record. On the night, SCSU outshot the Fighting Hawks 36-15. On the power play, SCSU was 1-4 and the Huskies were two-of-two on the penalty kill. Of note, SCSU outshot UND 12-6 in the second period and 16-4 in the third period.
David Hrenak allowed just one goal in the game and tallied 14 saves in his 13th win of the year. Adam Scheel was the goalie of record for UND with 33 saves in the game.
