Once again, SCSU and BSU skated to a scoreless first period draw at 0-0 before the Huskies took a 1-0 lead at 16:10 of the second with a goal by Nick Poehling, which was assisted by his brother Jack Poehling. The point was Jack Poehling's third assist of the young season.
The Huskies moved its lead to 2-0 with a power play goal by Easton Brodzinski at 19:13 of the second. He was assisted on the play by Sam Hentges and Kevin Fitzgerald. This marked Hentges third point of the weekend, which went with his 1g/1a/ performance on Oct. 11.
In the third period, BSU started their rally at 5:02 with a marker by Owen Sillinger that made it 2-1. The Beavers then tied the game at 14:24 with a goal by Nick Leitner.
The two teams then went into a defensive lockdown which resulted in another OT tie for both squads to open their 2019-20 seasons. In the contest, BSU outshot the Huskies 41-32. In a relatively penalty free game, SCSU and BSU were each only called for one penalty in the contest as the Huskies were 1-of-1 on the power play.
In the nets, SCSU junior netminder David Hrenak, a LA Kings draftee, was stellar with 39 saves to his credit.
SCSU will enjoy a bye week on Oct. 18-19. The Huskies will return to action on Oct.. 25-26 for a home series against non-conference rival Northeastern. Last year, SCSU lost a 3-2 game at Northeastern in Boston, Mass. The always popular Skate with the Huskies Open Skate will take place after the game on Oct. 26 at the HBNHC. This event is free and open to the public. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates to the game that night (or you can rent them at the HBNHC pro shop).
