St. Cloud State swim and dive opens with first day of events at MSUM Invite

The St. Cloud State men's and women's swim and dive teams kicked off their 2019-20 season with the first day of events at the MSUM Invite on Friday, Oct. 18. The event is being held on Oct. 18-19 at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, N.D. The final day of competition will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19.
In the women's 200 medley relay, SCSU won first place as the team of Marena Kouba, Alexis Burroughs, Kasey Milstroh and Chelsea Gehrke posted a top time of 1:47.92. In the men's 200 medley relay, SCSU's top team of Kevin Guenter, Jayden Porter, Kyle Weis and Abe Townley placed third with a time of 1:36.44.
In the women's 200 freestyle event, Milstroh won the top spot with a time of 1:55.09. In the men's 200 freestyle event, Joel Huth was SCSU's top placer with a fourth place time of 1:46.23.
Gehrke took the top spot in the 50 free with a time of 24.32 and teammate Burroughs placed third at 24.66. Townley posted SCSU's top place in the men's 50 free with a third place time of 21.73. In the men's 200 IM, Matheus Laperriere posted SCSU's top time with a second place finish at 1:59.72.
In event 12 of the day, Sam Artz placed second in the men's 200 fly at 2:00.71 and Brennan Hoem was third at 2:02.33.Â
Milstroh added another first place finish in the women's 100 free with a time of 53.07, and Huth placed sixth in the men's 100 free with a time of 48.29. In the women's 200 backstroke, Marena Kouba placed fifth with a time of 2:12.27. In the men's 200 backstroke, the Huskies brought home the top two times as Andres Hernandez won the event at 1:56.00 and Guenter placed second at 1:56.23.
Laperriere returned in the men's 500 free with a third place finish at 4:53.74, and Elena Page seventh in the 200 breaststroke at 2:32.37. In the men's 200 breaststroke, Porter placed fourth to lead with Huskies with a time of 2:12.24.
The Huskies gained the top spot in the 200 free relay with a winning time of 1:38.23. The winning team consisted of Gehrke, Leann Mengelkoch, Christina Ware and Burroughs. The SCSU men's 200 free relay team of Artz, Laperriere, Huth and Townley placed third at 1:25.93.
In the diving events, Mady Brinkman was SCSU's top placer in the 1M event with a sixth place score of 207.80 and Evan Infante placed fifth in the men's 1M diving at 205.80. In the women's 3M event, Meredith Matchinsky led the Huskies with a second place tally of 234.25, while Rebakah Stone was fourth at 227.10 and Brinkman was fifth at 226.90. In the men's 3M diving, Infante placed fifth with a time of 207.90.
