St. Cloud State men's hockey to open NCHC season at home vs. CC

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team (2-2-4, 0-0-0 NCHC) will open the 2019-20 NCHC season with a pair of home games against Colorado College (2-3-1, 0-1-1 NCHC) on Nov. 15-16. SCSU will begin the series on Nov. 15 with a 7:37 pm game against CC and on Nov. 16, the game will start at 6:07 p.m.  Both games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.  Tickets are available for both of these games and you can purchase them online at scsutickets.com.   St. Cloud State is the two-time defending NCHC regular season champions and the Huskies have won NCHC regular season titles in 2014, 2018 and 2019.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS 2019:  The annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place at St. Cloud State during the first intermission of the SCSU-Omaha game on Saturday, Dec. 14.  Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or stuffed animal/doll to the game and then throw them onto the ice during the first intermission.  All toys collected during the Teddy Bear Toss will then be donated to the local Toys For Tots campaign, which helps the area's needy during the holiday season.  For more details, please call the SCSU ticket office at 1-877-SCSUTIX.
IN THE POLLS:  The Huskies received votes in the USCHO.com weekly poll this week.  In the USA TODAY/USA Hockey poll this week, the Huskies received votes.  
 
NCHC CHAMPS:  The Huskies claimed the 2018-19 NCHC championship with a 5-0 win at Omaha on Feb. 23. This marks the third time the Huskies have won the Penrose Cup, which is the most of any team in the NCHC.  SCSU also won the NCHC regular season title in 2014, 2018 and 2019.
 
WORKING OVERTIME:  The Huskies battled to a 3-3 OT decision at NMU on Nov. 8 and then completed the weekend in the UP with a 5-4 OT win at NMU on Nov. 9.  Nick Perbix posted the game winner in the OT session for the Huskies, while other SCSU goals that evening were charted by Spencer Meier (PPG), Sam Hentges and Easton Brozinski (2).  Hentges finished the game with 1g/2 and Jack Ahcan also had two assists in the contest.  David Hrenak made 18 saves in the game as the Huskies outshot NMU 5-4...on Nov. 8, SCSU scored three goals in the first period by Nick Poehling (SHG), Will Hammer and Jack Poehling to take a 3-0 lead.  In the third period, NMU rallied with three power play markers to tie the game and send it to the OT session.  In the match, NMU outshot the Huskies 25-24.
 
FIRST GOAL:  Will Hammer charted his first collegiate goal in the Huskies' 3-3 OT game at NMU on Nov. 8.  He scored the goal at 8:32 of the 1st with assists from Jake Wahlin and Thomas Rocco.  This was Wahlin's first assist of the season for SCSU and Rocco's second asssit...Luke Jaycox added his first assist of the year on a goal by Easton Brodzinski in the first period of SCSU's 5-4 win at NMU on Nov. 9.
 
STILL STREAKING: SCSU sophomore forward Sam Hentges, a Minnesota Wild draftee, has now scored a point in the each of SCSU's eight games played this season.  He leads the team and the NCHC in scoring with a total of 15 points (6g/9a).  He also ranks sevneth in the nation with a scoring rate of 1.88 ppg.  Hentges already has five multi-point games this season and has only had two games this season where he did not score a goal.  The current team record for points per game in a season is 1.79 ppg, which was set by Mark Hartigan with 37g/38a in 2001-02.  Last year, Patrick Newell led SCSU with a scoring rate of 1.21 ppg.

HUSKIES HEADLINES:  SCSU has now played in five OT games this season, which includes four tie games.  The SCSU record for most OT games in a season is 12 set during the 2006-07 season.  SCSU had seven tie games that season, which is the team record for most ties in a season...Nick Poehling posted his first career SHG on Nov. 8 at NMU...Jack Poehling leads SCSU on the plus/minus at +5...Nick Perbix leads SCSU with 16 blocks this season...Nick Poehling owns a .520 faceoff rate this winter (26-24)...Nick Perbix is a draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning...Jack Ahcan is moving closer to the SCSU 100 point club.  He currently has 16g/70a and 86 points.  He ranks 6th in the team records for most points as a defenseman at 86 in his career.  He is tied for 6th with Justin Fletcher (2003-07) and current NHLer Nick Jensen (2010-13).  
NHL UPDATE:  Blake Lizotte, who played for SCSU from 2017 to 2019 reccently scored his first NHL goal for the LA Kings vs. the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 9.  He is one of 10 former Huskies who have been listed on NHL rosters during the 2019-20 season already.  Of note, former Husky Ryan Poehling played for Montreal in the game on Nov. 9 against the LA Kings.
2020 FROZEN FACEOFF TICKETS:  All session tickets for the 2020 NCHC Frozen Faceoff go on sale to the public on Friday, Nov. 8.  The 2020 Frozen Faceoff will take place on March 20-21 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul, Minn.  All-session ticket packages start at $60 and can be purchased at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office or online at ticketmaster.com beginning on Firday, Nov. 8 at Noon.  Any fan who purchases a 2020 NCHC Frozen Faceoff all-session ticket package by Dec. 31, 2018 is eligible to win access to a special NCHC Chalk Talk and VIP Brunch on March 21.  Visit NCHCHockey.com for details.
TIGER TALES:   The Huskies and Tigers are tied in the all-time series at 50-50-8...head coach Mike Haviland was an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks from 2008-12...SCSU assistant coach Mike Gibbons was an assistant coach at Colorado College from 1988 to 1990...last year, SCSU gained a 5-3 a d 2-1 victory at CC on Nov. 2-3, 2018 and a 2-2 tie and a 5-4 OT win on Feb. 8--9, 2019 in St. Cloud. SCSU posted a 5-2 win over CC in the 2019 NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinals....the last time the Huskies have lost a game at CC was a 4-3 setback on Feb. 22, 2013 and the last time SCSU lost a game against CC was a 2-1 setback at the HBNHC on Mar. 4, 2017...SCSU is 4-0-1 in the last five games vs. CC and 8-1-1 in the last 10 games vs. the Tigers...SCSU is 18-21-5 vs. CC in games played in St. Cloud...Easton Brodzinski has 4g/3a in play against CC, while Jack Poehling has 4g/1a vs. the Tigers...David Hrenak is 3-0-1 during his career vs. CC...Chris Wilkie leads CC with 4g/5a this season, while Ryan Ruck and Matt Vernon are sharing duties in the nets.
