Huskies Hot Shooting Lifts Them Over MSU Denver 67-44

MOORHEAD, MINN. – St. Cloud State University cruised to a 67-44 victory over Metropolitan State University of Denver. SCSU improves to an unblemished 3-0 (0-0 NSIC) record while MSU Denver falls to 0-4 (0-0 RMAC). The Huskies high powered offense saw 11 different ladies score.
The Huskies shot 23-of-49 from the floor for 46.9 percent and drained 3-of-9 shots from behind the arc. St. Cloud State hit 18-of-27 free throw attempts for 66.7 percent as a team. The Huskies stout defense forced the Roadrunners to turn the ball over 23 times. St. Cloud State also outrebounded MSU Denver 32-28.
The Roadrunners shot just 38.8 percent from the field, hitting 19-of-49 shots. MSU Denver struggled to find consistency from downtown as they only shot 29.4 percent as a team. In addition, MSU Denver only made one of their three free throw attempts.
The St. Cloud State offense was led by Katrina Theis (So., F, Maple Grove, Minn.) and Kelsey Peschel (So., G, Sauk Centre, Minn.) who both had 13 points. Theis shot 4-of-6 from the field and 5-of-7 at the charity stripe while adding seven rebounds. Peschel was 5-of-6 from the field and knocked down two three pointers. Peschel also had five rebounds and two assists. Tori Wortz (Jr., G, Hutchinson, Minn.) contributed 12 points shooting 5-of-12 from the field and added four assists.
Offensively, Jaiden Galloway led the Roadrunners in scoring with 14 points, two assists, and two rebounds. The MSU Denver bench scored 14 points on the night.
MSU Denver jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Wortz got the Huskies on the board with a jumper in the paint. The Huskies and Roadrunners then traded points for a back and forth first quarter. St. Cloud State took a 18-13 lead into the second quarter.
MSU Denver scored the first points of the second quarter but NIkki Kilboten (Jr., Eau Claire, Minn.) quickly responded with a layup to extend the Huskies lead to seven points. During the second quarter, St. Cloud State really started to separate themselves by extending their lead to 11 before heading into halftime with a comfortable 30-21 lead.
The Huskies opened up the third quarter by going on an 8-0 run behind Kilboten, Theis, and Wortz. SCSU increased their lead to 17 points after a Peschel three-pointer. St. Cloud State took a 49-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
SCSU really ran away with the game in the fourth quarter. At one point the Huskies led by 26 for their largest lead of the night. St. Cloud State handedly beat MSU Denver 67-44 to remain unbeaten in non-conference play.
The Huskies will be back in action Saturday, November 23 as they fly out to Northern Michigan University to take on the Wildcats in their last non-conference matchup before NSIC play. The game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. (EST).
