St. Cloud State and Princeton battle to 5-5 deadlock on Nov. 2

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team finished its weekend series with a 5-5 tie against Princeton University on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.  The result moved SCSU's season record to 1-2-3, while Princeton is now 1-0-1 on the 2019-20 season.
In an offensive showcase, SCSU started the scoring at 15:31 with a power play goal by Sam Hentges. Easton Brodzinski and Nick Poehling each had assists on the play. This marked the fourth consecutive game that Hentges has scored a goal and moves his season totals to six goals and five assists.
Princeton rallied with a shorthanded goal by Jackson Cressey at 3:23 of the first and a goal by Corey Andonovski at 8:02 of the second period to make it 2-1.
The Huskies got back into the mix at 15:56 of the second period with a career-first goal by Chase Brand, which was assisted by Brodzinski.  At 17:16 of the second period, Brodzinski gave the Huskies a 3-2 lead with his goal that was assisted by Hentges and Jack Ahcan.
Princeton returned to the lead in the closing minutes of the second period thanks to goals by Luke Keenan and Andonovski. The see-saw match continued into the third period as the Huskies tied the game at 4-4 with a a power play marker by Nick Perbix at 8:30, which was assisted by Nolan Walker and Ahcan. This was Perbix' first goal of the season and Walker's first assist of the year.
SCSU then gained a 5-4 edge with a goal by Jake Wahlin at 11:46. Tyler Anderson and Thomas Rocco each had assists on the play. Of note, this was Wahlin's first goal of the season and it the first collegiate points for both Rocco and Anderson.
The game was pushed to OT thanks to a power play goal by Andonovski, which gave him the hat trick on the night for Princeton.
In the contest, SCSU was 3-8 on the power play and Princeton was 2-6. SCSU outshot the Tigers 30-24 as David Hrenak was the goalie of record for SCSU with 19 saves.
On Nov. 8-9, SCSU will continue its season with a pair of road games at Northern Michigan.
