St. Cloud State men's hockey edged by #5/6 North Dakota in OT

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team (2-6-4, 0-4-0 NCHC) pushed #5/6 North Dakota (10-1-2, 5-0-1 NCHC) to the limit before losing a close 2-1 decision in overtime on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.

In the first period, St. Cloud State jumped to a 1-0 lead with an even strength goal by Jack Ahcan at 13:20. Assists on the play were credited to Easton Brodzinski and Sam Hentges. This was Ahcan's third goal of the season and his 17th career marker at SCSU.Â

Hentges continued his strong start in 2019-20 with his team leading 12th assist on the play (and 18th point). Brodzinski now has seven assists this season and 12 points.

In the second period, North Dakota tied the contest at 8:09 with a power play goal by Jacob Bernard-Docker on assists from Jordan Kawaguchi and Colton Poolman.

Both teams then battled to a scoreless draw through the remainder of the game as regulation time concluded with both teams tied at 1-1.

In the overtime session, North Dakota gained the victory with a goal by Kawaguchi at 3:41 with assists from Matt Kiersted and Collin Adams.

The goal broke up a strong defensive showing on both ends of the ice as the Huskies limited UND to just 20 shots in the game and SCSU had 12 shots on net. David Hrenak carded 18 saves in the game and Adam Sheel posted 11 saves to gain the win.

On the power play, SCSU was 0-3 and North Dakota was 1-6.
