St. Cloud State men's hockey gains 2-1 win over Miami

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team relied upon the last minute heroics of junior blueliner Luke Jaycox to chart a 2-1 victory at Miami University on Friday, Dec. 6. The victory moved SCSU's season record to 3-6-4, 1-4-0 NCHC while Miami falls to 4-9-3, 2-4-1 NCHC this season.
In a close defensive battle, SCSU gained the winning edge with an even-strength goal by Jaycox at 19:34 of the third period. He was assisted on the blast from the blueline by Easton Brodzinski and Micah Miller. This was Jaycox' second goal of the season and it marked his first career game winner as a Husky. Brodzinski continued to rack up points on the play and now has five goals and eight assists this season, while Miller now has four assists in 2019-20.
The goal broke a 1-1 deadlock on a game dominated by the defense and flawless penalty kill play by both squads. SCSU and Miami were both four-of-four on the penalty kill as David Hrenak was the goalie of record for SCSU with 20 saves, and Grant Valentine had 26 saves in the loss for Miami.
SCSU opened the night's scoring at 17:19 of the first period with a marker by Jami Krannila. This was his second goal of the season and it was assisted by Nick Perbix and Jack Ahcan, who now has eight assists this season and 72 career assists at SCSU. Of note, Ahcan now ranks 19th in the SCSU career charts for most assists.
In the second period, Miami broke the shutout at 1:52 with a goal by Casey Gilling. He was assisted on the play by Karch Bachman and Gordie Green. From that point, SCSU's defensive play and Hrenak's work between the pipes delivered the victory for the Huskies. In the game, SCSU outshot the RedHawks 28-21 and both teams were 0-of-4 on the power play.
