#1 St. Cloud State rolls to 4-1 victory at Omaha on Feb. 22

The #1 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (22-4-3, 14-2-3 NCHC) continued its success in 2018-19 with a 4-1 victory at Omaha (9-18-2, 5-13-1 NCHC) on Friday, Feb. 22 in Omaha, Neb.
The Huskies will complete their weekend roadtrip to Omaha on Saturday, Feb. 23 with a 7:07 p.m. game against the Mavericks at Baxter Arena. Fans can listen to the game on The River 96.7 FM with Jim Erickson and Dave Reichel on the call. Fans can also watch the game live on NCHC.tv/scsu.
The victory marked SCSU's eighth consecutive win over Omaha and it extended SCSU's winning streak in Omaha to seven games.
The Huskies jumped to a quick 1-0 lead with a goal by Sam Hentges at 3:41 of the first period. This was Hentges' seventh goal of the season and it was assisted by Brendan Bushy, which was his fifth assist of the year.
The Huskies extended their lead to 2-0 with a power play goal by Ryan Poehling at 17:03 of the first period. Blake Lizotte and Easton Brodzinski each provided assists on the play. This was Blake Lizotte's 16th assist of the year and it was Brodzinski's ninth assist of the year. Â
In the second period, Nick Poehling moved SCSU's lead to 3-0 with his fourth goal of the year at 8:34. Nick Perbix added the solo assist on the play, which was his 12th assist of the year. To complete the SCSU scoring, Ryan Poehling added his second goal of the evening at 11:44 of the second period. His goal was unassisted and it was his seventh of the season.
In the third period, Omaha broke the shutout at 9:01 with a goal by Mason Morelli that included assists from Fredrik Olofsson and Taylor Ward.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Mavs 31-23 as David Hrenak earned the victory in the nets with 22 saves. On the power play, SCSU was 1-3 and it was a perfect 2-of-2 on the penalty kill. This was the Huskies' 23rd game in which they have recorded 30 or more shots on goal and it was SCSU's fifth consecutive game with 30-plus goals.
