ST. CLOUD, MINN. - Ryan Poehling's second period goal secured the St. Cloud State University (28-4-3, 19-2-3-2 NCHC) 5-2 win over the Miami University Redhawks (11-22-4, 5-17-2-1 NCHC) on Friday, March 15. The victory puts the Huskies at a one-game advantage in the best-of-three series of the NCHC Quarterfinals.
The Huskies took a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission after Nick Poehling got the scoring started with his sixth goal of the season at 3:43 of the period. Senior Robby Jackson added another for SCSU on the power-play.
Miami's Ben Lown cut the Huskies lead in half at 11:18 of the second period, but a goal by Ryan Poehling from N. Poehling and Jack Poehling just minutes later kept SCSU in a two-goal lead into the next intermission. That goal marks R. Poehling's 75th career point for SCSU and was tonight's game-winning-goal.
Only 24 seconds into the third period, Miami put another past St. Cloud's netminder. Nevertheless, the Huskies would add two more goals, from Jack Ahcan and Easton Brodzinski respectively, to finish the game with a final score of 5-2.
