
Meyer, Gottschalk named Wolters Kluwer Athletes of the Month

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – St. Cloud State baseball's Mathew Meyer (St. Stephen, Minn. / Sartell-St. Stephen) and track and field's Natalie Gottschalk (Waukesha, Wis. / Waukesha South) have been named the Wolters Kluwer Athletes of the Month.
In the month of May, Meyer led the SCSU baseball team with a .400 batting average that included 18 hits, 16 RBIs, three home runs, one double and eight runs. He posted a .622 slugging percentage in May and a .453 on base percentage. In the field, Meyer owned a perfect 1.000 fielding rate with 96 putouts to his credit. An NSIC Gold Glove winner in 2019, Meyer was named to the 2019 NCBWA Division II All-Central Region team as an Honorable Mention selection. An Academic All-NSIC pick in 2019, Meyer also gained Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team honors for the Huskies this spring. As a team, SCSU finished the 2019 season with a 41-14 record and a 26-8 NSIC record. The Huskies earned an NCAA DII tournament bid this spring and placed among the nation's top 20 teams in the final 2019 NCAA DII national polls.
Gottschalk concluded her career at St. Cloud State with an appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, becoming the first Husky to qualify for the outdoor championships since 2017. Gottschalk earned a 13th place finish in heptathlon at the NCAA Championship, racking up 4780 points over the course of the two-day competition. She tallied 2709 points on the opening day of competition and rallied to score 2071 on day two to finish with her total of 4780.
Gottschalk recorded three top-10 finishes in the heptathlon, including an impressive third place finish in javelin thanks to her throw of 38.39 meters. Additionally, Gottschalk finished ninth in long jump and tenth in the 800m run to round out her impressive trip to the NCAA Championship. She graduated with a Second Team All-America honor to her name, thanks to her top-12 finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2018. Gottschalk also earned NSIC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors in mid-April and recorded a career-best score of 5005 in heptathlon in her final season with the Huskies.
