St. Cloud State Softball Extends Win Streak to Six With Sweep of Northern State, Sets Pair of Program Records in Game Two

Huskies outscore NSU 11-3 in the twinbill, tie program record for doubles in a game, Frechette sets single game assists record
ABERDEEN, S.D. – St. Cloud State Softball (25-9, 7-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) pushed its winning streak to six games after picking up its third straight NSIC sweep on Sunday against Northern State (8-16, 0-8 NSIC) at Koehler Hall of Fame Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Huskies took the first game 4-1, before winning game two 7-2 in eight innings while tying the program record for doubles in a game with six. Additionally, redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) set the program record for assists in a game, with 11.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 4, NORTHERN STATE 1
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when junior outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.) hit a solo home run over the fence in left-center field. SCSU added three more runs in the fifth inning after an RBI-double from sophomore infielder Grace Dahmen (Jordan, Minn.), an RBI-single from junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and a Wolves error allowed Holmes to come around and score. NSU scored its lone run of the game in the final half inning to make the final 4-1 SCSU.
Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) was solid in the circle again, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four over 6.2 innings.

SCSU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Harms drove in a run on a deep fly ball to center field before the Wolves tied the game in the bottom of the sixth to send the game to extra innings after the seventh inning went scoreless.
The Huskies offense exploded for six runs on six hits during the extra inning. SCSU opened the eighth with back-to-back doubles from Holmes and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.), taking a 2-1 lead. In the ensuing three at-bats, sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) hit an RBI-double, Collins hit a sacrifice fly and Frechette hit an RBI-double to extend the SCSU lead to 5-1. Later in the inning, Harms hit a two-RBI double to make the score 7-1. Northern State scored one run in the home half, but was unable to do more damage, making the final 7-2.

The Huskies continue their 10-game road trip with doubleheaders at Wayne State and Augustana. SCSU plays Wayne State (26-6, 6-2 NSIC) on Friday at Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne, Nebraska and travels to Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to play Augustana (13-16, 6-2 NSIC) on Saturday.
