St. Cloud State Softball Earns Series Split at Wayne State

Huskies drop game one 4-1, take game two 9-2
WAYNE, Neb. – St. Cloud State Softball (26-10, 8-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) split its road series against Wayne State on Friday at the Wildcat Dome in Wayne, Nebraska. WSC (27-7, 7-3 NSIC) won the first game 4-1 before the Huskies took the second game 9-2.
GAME ONE: WAYNE STATE 4, ST. CLOUD STATE 1
The Huskies fell behind 1-0 after WSC hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third inning but SCSU responded with a solo home run of its own from sophomore infielder Grace Dahmen (Jordan, Minn.) in the next half inning. The Wildcats scored what ended up being the deciding runs during their three-run sixth inning after SCSU gave up a pair of walks to open the inning followed by a two-RBI single and another RBI-single later in the inning. The Huskies also drew back-to-back walks to open the seventh inning, but were unable to convert, as Wayne State recorded outs in each of the next three SCSU at-bats.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU took its first lead of the day in the first inning after Frechette delivered a two-RBI ground rule double over the center field wall. The Wildcats wasted no time evening the score after scoring a pair of runs in the home half of the first. The Huskies retook their lead in the top of the second with a two-RBI single from Honeycutt and added a pair of runs in the fifth with RBI-doubles from junior infielder Kennedy Palmer (Ankeny, Iowa) and Dahmen. SCSU added its final three tallies in the seventh with RBI-singles from Palmer and Holmes and a run scored on a Wildcat error.

- Porter earned her 10th win of the season in her sixth complete game which both rank second on the team.
- Palmer recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the season and first multi-RBI game. It was her second game scoring 2+ runs this season.
- Harms scored 2+ runs in a game for the first time this season. She is on a five-game on-base streak.
- Frechette tallied her sixth multi-RBI game of the season which ranks second on the team. She hit her ninth double which ranks third most on the team.
- Honeycutt recorded her fifth multi-RBI game of the season.
- Dahmen is on a season-best eight game on-base streak.
- Roe had her season-best seven game hit streak snapped but extended her on-base streak to nine games after being hit by two pitches (the most of a Husky in a game this season).
