
Huskies fall short in game one against Minnesota State

Mankato, Minnesota - St. Cloud State Women's hockey dropped its first game of the weekend series with a 5-3 loss to Minnesota State Friday at the Mankato Civic Center.
Eight different Huskies tallied a point against the Mavericks, but the Huskies struggled to come back. Emma Polusny made 14 saves on 15 shots in the first period, as defenseman McKenzie Sederbeg snuck a puck past the Huskies halfway through the first period to give Minnesota State the lead.
The Mavericks collected a second goal seven minutes into the second period to widen the lead by two. The Huskies gained momentum as they tallied two goals just 18 seconds apart. The Huskies' first goal was scored by freshman Klara Hymlarova which accounts for her fifth goal this season. Hymlarova was assisted by Taylor Lind and Laura Kluge. Freshman Olivia Cvar notched the second goal for the Huskies on the powerplay as she was assisted by Rachel Herzog and Jenniina Nylund just 18 seconds after to tie up the game. The Mavericks pulled ahead once again when Kelsey King scored with five minutes left in the second period. Emma Polusny came up with 15 more saves in the second period for the Huskies.

The third period came with two additional goals by the Mavericks, one being on the power-play. The Huskies put a third goal on the board with 53 seconds remaining by senior Hallie Theodosopoulos as she was assisted by junior Hannah Bates. The Huskies pulled their goalie for a man-advantage, but couldn't quite come back in time. St. Cloud State held the Mavericks to 1 for 2 on power-play opportunities as the Huskies were 1 for 1.
