
Nylund's game-winning goal lifts Huskies past Mavericks

St. Cloud State women's hockey took the victory over Minnesota State in game two of the weekend series with a score of 2 to 1.
The first period went scoreless as Huskies' goaltender Emma Polusny stopped all nine of the Mavericks' shots. St. Cloud State took two penalties in the first, but successfully killed off both of Minnesota State's power-play chances. The Huskies also blocked six shots in the first period.
The Mavericks stole the lead seven minutes into the second period when Claire Butorac tallied the first goal of the game. The Huskies saw one power-play opportunity, but struggled to get a puck past Mavericks' goaltender Calla Frank. The Huskies killed off two more penalties in the second period holding Minnesota State off both times.
Just one minute into the third period, freshman Olivia Cvar notched an even-strength goal for the Huskies to tie up the game. Cvar was assisted by Klara Hymlarova. At the 13:36 mark, Jenniina Nylund scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies. Nylund was assisted by Kenzie Wylie and Abby Thiessen.🚨HUSKIES GOAL!

Emma Polusny made a game total of 40 saves for the Huskies. The Huskies took four more penalties in the third period, but successfully killed all of them off as they held Minnesota State to zero for eight on power-play opportunities.
Coach Macdonald stated, "I'm really proud of how team played and responded from yesterday's game. It was nice to see the team get rewarded for their efforts. We hope to keep paying how we have been - with consistency and attentional to details. We had very good depth to our lineup tonight with everyone playing their role. It was a great team win."
Up Next:
The Huskies return home for a conference series against Minnesota Duluth Jan. 24-25. Both games will be held at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Game times are set for 6:07 pm and 2:07 pm. The Huskies will celebrate and honor the Seniors during and after Saturday's game.
