Huskies road trip to North Dakota to face Minot State, Mary

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – It's time for the longest road trip of the season for the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team. After resuming Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play at home last weekend, the Huskies will embark on their first road trip of the new year as they face Minot State and the University of Mary this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
St. Cloud State already battled the Marauders and Beavers earlier this season, as they faced both teams in Halenbeck Hall in early December. The Huskies came out on top in both meetings, as they dominated en route to an 88-56 victory over Mary before career days from Trevon Marshall (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston) and Ilya Tyrtyshnik (Kyiv, Ukraine / Kyiv Secondary School) led to a 78-73 win over Minot State.
Friday's game in Minot is set to start at 7:30, while Saturday's tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Bismarck, North Dakota. Live stats and video will be available for both games during the weekend, and score updates can be found on the team's official Twitter page (@SCSUmensbball).
Here are the five things to know before this weekend's road trip:
100 – St. Cloud State's 88-56 victory over the Marauders was monumental in many ways. Not only was it the Huskies first NSIC victory of the season, but it was also the 100th career victory for head coach Matt Reimer. Since leading his team to victory on December 6, Reimer has guided St. Cloud State to a 5-2 record in the last seven games, with wins over several top NSIC foes, including (RV) Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota-Crookston.
2 – The Huskies are looking for their second NSIC sweep of the season, as they've gone 1-1 in both series since sweeping Mary and Minot State back in December. In its most recent NSIC weekend, St. Cloud State opened with a resounding 72-57 victory over the Golden Eagles, as the Huskies held the visitors high-powered offense to just 57 points on .350 shooting from the floor. The defense, though, had no answer for Bemidji State on Saturday, the Beavers cut St. Cloud State's win streak short with a 92-81 shootout victory in Halenbeck Hall.
2 – The Huskies defense was superb in their first meeting with the Marauders, as they only allowed two Mary players to score in double-digits in the win. In fact, the Marauders made just 19 shots in their first meeting with St. Cloud State, nine in the first half and ten in the second, while their highest scoring player managed 11 points against the Huskies defense. On the flip side, St. Cloud State saw four student-athletes score in double-digits, including Tyrtyshnik who scored a career-high 20 on 7-11 shooting, including a 5-7 mark from three-point land. Joining him in the double-digits club was Andrija Blatancic (Bergen, Norway / Academy of Arts), Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington) and Ethan Schuemer (Lombard, Ill. / Willowbrook).
5 – St. Cloud State's (probable) starting line up will look a little different than it did in early December, as the Huskies have switched out two starters since the first games against Mary and Minot. While Marshall, Tyrtyshnik and Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) have started all 14 games for St. Cloud State this season, five other student-athletes have played starting rolls in two games or more. However, the Huskies seem to have found their stride with their latest starting line up, consisting of Marshall, Tyrtyshnik, Roberts, Donaldson and Diamond Onwuka (Barcelona, Spain / Canarias Basketball Academy).
6 – Marshall's high scoring antics and a new starting line up may not be the only secrets to St. Cloud State's recent success. First year guard Roberts has scored in double-digits in six straight games for the Huskies, helping the team achieve a 4-2 record in that span. The first year has also tallied two double-doubles, one against SMSU and the most recent against Minnesota-Crookston, both of which have resulted in wins for St. Cloud State.
