UND returns for men's hockey games at St. Cloud State on Feb. 21-22

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team (11-12-5, 8-9-1 NCHC) will continue its 2019-20 season with games against #1 University of North Dakota (23-3-3, 14-2-2 NCHC) on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22. Both games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Game time on Feb. 21 is slated for 7:37 p.m. CT and the game on Feb. 22 is scheduled to start at 6:07 p.m. CT.

TOP 20 RESULTS: SCSU is 5-5-1 in games played against top 20 ranked teams this season, which includes a weekend sweep over Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 17-18. SCSU has also gained wins this season over nationally ranked #3 Minnesota State, #11 Northeastern and #19 Northern Michigan and a 3-3 tie against NMU. UND enters this weekend ranked #1 in the nation. Earlier in the season, SCSU lost to the Fighting Hawks by scores of 4-2 and 2-1 OT on Nov. 22-23 in the Grand Forks, N.D.
WHERE DO WE STACK UP: The Huskies currently sit in fifth place in the NCHC standings this week with an 8-9-1 NCHC record. SCSU has 25 league points. Denver is in 4th place with 28 points and Western Michigan is in 3rd place with 32 points. UND sits atop the NCHC with 46 points and could potentially clinch the NCHC title this week if they can build a 12 point lead on 2nd place UMD after the games this weekend. UMD currently sits in 2nd place with 38 points. Omaha (21), Miami (14) and CC (12) round out the bottom three spots in the NCHC. Of note, the top 4 spots in the final regular season standings gain home ice in the upcoming NCHC first round playoffs...in this week's Pairwise Ranking, SCSU is 26th, while UND is #1.

Visit NCHCHockey.com/tickets for details.WELCOME TO THE CLUB: Jack Ahcan, a two time NCHC Defensive Player of the Week this season, joined SCSU's elite 100-point club on Feb. 8. Ahcan now has 100 career points (20g/80a) and is third on the Huskies' career points by a defenseman list. SCSU's all-time leader on defense is Jimmy Schuldt, who had 118 points from 2015-19. Ahcan also ranks 11th in the team records with 80 career assists and 33rd with 100 points. He is the 34th player (all games played at the DI level) to join the 100 point club. He currently ranks 3rd on the team this winter with 22 points and 16 assists. Ahcan is tied for the team record for most assists by a defenseman at 80. Schuldt and Ethan Prow both had 80 assists during their college careers at SCSU.
FIRST GOAL: Nolan Walker broke into the goal scoring column for the first time this season during the Huskies' 2-2 OT tie at CC on Feb. 8. A resident of Anchorage, Alaska, Walker has 1g/9a this season. In his career, Walker has 9 goals and 28 assists in 61 games played.
MILEPOST 60: Senior Nick Poehling scored his 60th career point with an assist on Easton Brodzinski's goal on Feb. 8. In 137 games played, Nick Poehling now has 24g/36a. He ranks third on the team this winter with 13 assists and fourth with 20 points scored.
POINT MAN: Junior forward Easton Brodzinski moved into the team's point scoring lead with his play at CC on Feb. 7-8. Brodzinski now has 12g/12a and 24 points this season. He leads the Huskies with 12 goals, 24 points, 89 shots on target and five power play goals. He ranks 32nd in the team record with 42 career goals and 22nd with 17 power play goals.
THE NOTEBOOK: Did you know that Nick Poehling brings a five-game point streak into the UND series? Well now you know...he has 7 points to his credit in the last five consecutive games. The last time he did not make the scoresheet was on Jan. 24 at WMU...Jack Achan has six multi-point games this season...David Hrenak continues to impress this winter with a 10-9-4 record, which includes a 2.73 GAA and a .903 save rate. He is tied for the team's career shutout record with nine in 82 games played as a Husky...Jack Poehling paces the SCSU roster this season with a +9 on the all-important plus/minus.
ON DECK: SCSU will host Denver at the HBNHC on Feb. 28-29. SCSU will finish its 2019-20 regular season with a tough slate of games including #1 UND on Feb. 21-22, #7 Denver on Feb. 28-29 and #4 Minnesota Duluth on Mar. 6-7...of note, SCSU is 0-2 in games played on Feb. 29 (Leap Day) during the DI era. Last year, SCSU posted a 3-1 win over UND on Jan. 25, 2019 and a 5-1 loss at UND on Jan. 26, 2019 at the REA...earlier this season, SCSU lost 4-2 at UND on Nov. 22, 2019 and 2-1 in OT on Nov. 23...UND did not play at SCSU in 2018-19...in the last five meetings vs. UND, SCSU is 2-3...in the last 10 meetings vs. UND, the Huskies are 4-4-2...Nick Poehling has scored 4 goals vs. UND during his career and Easton Brodzinski has posted 2g/5a vs. the Fighting Hawks...Jordan Kawaguchi, a sophomore forward, leads UND with 15g/20a in 2019-20, while Collin Adams has 10g/16...Adam Scheel is UND's top goalie with a .903 SV% and a 2.08 GAA (8-1-2)...SCSU is 11-20-5 in games played at the new REA... of note, SCSU has not played UND at the HBNHC since a series on Dec. 8-9, 2017.
WISE GUYS: The following SCSU student-athletes have earned All-NCHC Academic honors for the 2019-20 season: Tyler Anderson, Kevin Fitzgerald, Will Hammer, Sam Hentges, Clark Kuster, Spencer Meier, Micah Miller, Nick Perbix and Nolan Walker. This honor recognizes those student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or above. SCSU student-athletes named Distinguished NCHC Scholar-Athletes (3.5 GPA or higher) are Anderson, Hammer, Kuster and Walker. Kuster is a 5x NCHC Scholar-Athlete and All-NCHC Academic team award winner. Anderson has earned both awards three times at SCSU. Hammer and Fitzgerald are both 3X All-NCHC Academic award winners. Walker, Perbix, Miller, and Meier are all 2X All-NCHC Academic Team award winners.
