The #6/7 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (9-4-0, 9-4-0 NCHC) completed its first weekend sweep of the 2020-21 season with a 1-0 overtime win at #5 Minnesota Duluth (6-5-2, 6-5-2 NCHC) on Saturday, Jan. 9 in Duluth, Minn.
The victory was charged by goalie David Hrenak, who posted 28 saves in the shutout win, which was his team record 10th career shutout as a Husky. He moves ahead of Scott Meyer in the SCSU recordbooks, who had nine shutouts during his career from 1996-01.
In addition to his perfect performance between the pipes at UMD, Hrenak found his way onto the scoresheet for the first time in his career with the assist on Nick Perbix' game winning goal at 3:58 of the overtime session.
This marked the first time since that a SCSU goalie charted an assist since Jeff Smith posted a point on Oct. 20, 2018 against Northern Michigan.
In a true defensive showdown between two top six ranked teams, SCSU was able to hold off the Bulldogs throughout the first three periods of regulation. In the first period, UMD outshot the Huskies 11-6. In the second, SCSU outshot the Bulldogs 9-8. In the third period, UMD regained its edge in shots at 8-2.
In the overtime session, SCSU outshot UMD 4-1 - including the game winner by Perbix. This was Perbix' fifth goal of the season and his second GWG of 2020-21. A post-season honors candidate for the Huskies, Perbix leads all NCAA DI players with 13 points and ranks fifth in the nation with a 1.00 ppg scoring average. On the season, Perbix now has five goals, eight assists and is +7.
In the game, UMD outshot the Huskies 28-21. On the power play, SCSU was 0-2 and it was 4-of-4 on the penalty kill in the game.

Hrenak improved his season record to 7-3-0 on the season and now has charted 56 wins in his career, which ranks second in the SCSU records. He also has 2,277 career saves, which ranks third in the team records.
