Miettinen & Brodzinski Lead No. 1 Huskies to Series-Opening Win over No. 11 Omaha

Miettinen and Brodzinski each score twice in 5-1 victory over No. 11 Omaha
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 1/1 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (9-2-0, 3-0-0 NCHC) extended its winning streak to five with a 5-1 win over No. 11/11 Omaha (8-3-0, 1-2-0 NCHC) on Friday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies had two skaters score two goals each in the game, as sophomore forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) and senior forward Easton Brodzinski (Blaine, Minn.) each found the back of the net twice.
Brodzinski scored his 60th and 61st career goals to move into the top-10 all-time in St. Cloud State history in goals scored.
TURNING POINT
It didn't take long for the Huskies to find the back of the net, as Miettinen scored his first goal of the game just 4:26 after puck drop. Junior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) and junior defenseman Ondrej Trejbal (Hamry nad Sazavau, Czech Republic) each recorded assists on the game's opening goal. The Huskies never looked back after scoring first, outshooting the Mavericks 14-3 in the first period and 43-19 overall.

- Trejbal and freshman defenseman Josh Luedtke (Minnetonka, Minn.) each recorded two assists in the game.
- St. Cloud State once again blanked its opponent in the game's opening period, improving to 15-0 against its opponents in the first period this season.
- Molenaar's second period power play goal was the St. Cloud State's 18th of the season. The Huskies entered the matchup with the second-most power play goals in the nation.
- With a pair of goals, Brodzinski scored his 60th and 61st career goals and moved ninth-place all-time in program history in goals scored. It also marked the second time this season and the seventh time in his career he has scored multiple goals.
- Miettinen matched career-highs in goals (two) and points (three), equaling his mark against Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 3, 2021.
- The sophomore forward scored his 30th, 31st and 32nd career points with two goals and an assist.
- In total, nine Huskies recorded a point, with four record 2+ points.
- Trejbal matched a career-high with his pair of assists, marking the fourth time he's reached that mark.
- Luedtke recorded the first multi-point game of his career with his two assists.
- Molenaar scored his first goal of the season and the second of his career.
