HOUGHTON, Mich. – The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team dropped its second game of its two-day road trip to Michigan. Despite holding a lead at the half, the Huskies fell to Michigan Tech 90-76 Sunday afternoon. After the weekend, St. Cloud State's record now stands at 3-4 overall and 0-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play.
GAME SUMMARY
St. Cloud State held a 46-39 lead at halftime thanks to the scoring efforts of Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington). The junior point guard was the lone Husky to score in double-digits in the opening 20 minutes of play, as he tallied 17 points on 6-9 shooting, including a 4-4 mark from the charity stripe. While Donaldson was busy scoring, an unlikely suspect led the team in rebounds in the first half, as Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) pulled in a team-leading and season-high six rebounds in the first half alone.
The Huskies could not hold the lead early in the second half, as Michigan Tech closed the seven point gap and took a 53-52 lead at roughly the 10 minute mark. St. Cloud State was also forced to play with Josh Tomasi (Melbourne, Australia / Box Hill) for most of the second half, as the sophomore forward was called for his fourth foul at the seven minute mark. The loss of Tomasi was too much for the Huskies to overcome, both offensively and defensively, as they fell to the (other) Huskies by a final score of 90-76.
