Bourgerie’s two goals lead Huskies past RV Mavericks in overtime

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Sophomore forward Mackenzie Bourgerie scored two goals including the overtime winner to lead St. Cloud State Women's Hockey over RV Minnesota State 3-2 on Friday evening. Huskies netminder and fellow second-year athlete Sanni Ahola was brilliant, earning her third win in four career starts against the Mavericks. Trailing 1-0 but on a power play just under three minutes into the third period, aggressive forechecking by Allie Cornelius knocked the puck loose towards the slot. Bourgerie slashed into the space and ripped home the game-tying goal with just three seconds to spare on the advantage, her first marker of the evening. MSU scored on the power play early in the third to reclaim a 2-1 lead. Four minutes later, Jenniina Nylund and Taylor Lind worked the puck ahead to Emma Gentry in neutral ice. Gentry skated towards the left circle and rifled a wrister off the tender's pads, then buried the rebound with an impressive second effort for the equalizer.
TURNING POINT
Early in overtime, Taylor Lind created a turnover near the Huskies' offensive zone and directed a two-on-one break with Mackenzie Bourgerie. Lind tossed the puck across into the slot to a wide-open Bourgerie, and the latter ripped the game-winner home for her second goal of the night.

QUOTABLES
St. Cloud State Women's Hockey Head Coach Steve Macdonald
"First off, any time you get points in this league you'll take it. We're obviously extremely happy with the OT win and it's exciting to get that point in that fashion. I thought we started off really well and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Really happy with how our team played. There's obviously a few things we need to clean up, we'll look at that tonight and address it tomorrow."
On Mackenzie Bourgerie's multi-goal game… "She's a player that brings the intensity and the commitment to the details each and every night, so she's a player that you can rely on. To see her get rewarded with a couple of goals including obviously the OT winner, you're really happy for her. She's a player that I think a lot of the time is one of our most consistent players."
On Sanni Ahola's dominant effort… "Great response by her coming off last weekend. She had a great week of practice and a great goalie session this week, I'm really happy with how she responded - it shows a lot of maturity and poise, and that's going to lead well into tomorrow."
On the Huskies' standouts… "Addi Scribner is one. She jumped into that center spot that she's been working the last couple weeks and I thought she played an excellent game. Olivia Cvar, she's been very consistent the last few weekends for us, she's been really strong on puck, played with a lot of energy and she's been getting her chances. Taytum Geier on the back end, Dayle Ross, the list goes on. Those are a few we thought stepped up today."
