Huskies Pull Away from Colorado College to Record Road Series Sweep

Huskies score two goals in the first, two in the third period
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 1/1 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (8-2-0, 2-0-0 NCHC) started strong and finished strong, as the Huskies finished off a road series sweep over Colorado College (2-6-2, 0-2-0 NCHC), 3-1, Saturday evening at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo. St. Cloud State scored twice in the first period and twice in the third period to claim the victory.
TURNING POINT
Each team took their turn controlling the momentum through the first two periods, but the Huskies were able to reclaim the momentum just four minutes into the third period, as junior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) found the back of the net off a pass across the ice from graduate forward Kevin Fitzgerald (Hinsdale, Ill.) to give the Huskies a 3-1 advantage. Fitzgerald would score a power play goal later in the third period to finish the scoring off at 4-1.

St. Cloud State returns home to host No. 9/7 Omaha at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Nov. 12-13. Puck drop from the Brooks Center will be at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday and 6:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, with both games broadcast on Fox 9 +.

- Fitzgerald led the Huskies in scoring with three points, recording one goal and two assists in the game.
- Senior forward Nolan Walker (Anchorage, Alaska) scored his fifth goal of the season and the 25th of his career in the first period.
- Miller scored for the third straight game and for the fourth time this season, and led the team in shots with five.
- Okabe scored his third goal of the season and added an assist.
- Graduate goalie David Hrenak (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) made 23 saves in the game.
- Senior forward Easton Brodzinski (Blaine, Minn.), graduate defenseman Seamus Donohue (North Oaks, Minn.), senior forward Spencer Meier (Sartell, Minn.) and freshman forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) all recorded assists in the game for the Huskies.
- St. Cloud State continued its remarkable play in the first period, scoring two goals from Walker and Miller in the first 20 minutes. The Huskies have now outscored their opponents, 13-0 in the first period this season.
- The Huskies dominated the faceoff dot all night, winning 28 of 58 faceoffs in the game. Fitzgerald led the way with 14 faceoff wins (14-6, 70.0%), while Walker won 11 (11-7, 61.1%), senior forward Aidan Spellacy (Lakewood, Ohio) won seven (7-4, 63.6%) and junior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) won six (6-3, 66.7%).
- Fitzgerald's third period power play goal was the St. Cloud State's 17th of the season. The Huskies end the weekend with a 43.6 percent success rate (17-of-39) on the power play this season.
- Miller's first period goal was his second short-handed goal of the season and the Huskies fourth on the season. It marks the most short-handed goals scored by the Huskies since 2017-18 when they scored seven with a man-down.
- Walker recorded his 25th career goal and 70th career point with his first period goal, while Miller recorded his 40th career point with his first period goal.
- Meier's assist in the third period marked his 40th career point.
