ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey fell 3-0 at the hands of Minnesota State in their series opener on Friday evening. Goalie Sanni Ahola played a brilliant game in net, saving 33 shots, but the Huskies couldn't solve Mavericks tender Calla Frank. SCSU killed all four penalties but went 0-for-3 on the power play while being outshot 36-27.
TURNING POINT
The Mavericks scored twice in a two-minute span early in the second, gaining momentum that they would not relinquish.
TOP HUSKIES
St. Cloud State Women's Hockey Head Coach Steve Macdonald
"Tonight was obviously disappointing. We had some chances, then they were able to get things going with the goal right after their power play expired in the second. I don't think we were strong enough in net-front, as well as our board battles. They won that area of the ice, they were able to get to the middle too much and that's what ultimately led to the result today. We need to be better in those areas for a different result tomorrow."
On Sanni Ahola's strong performance in goal... "She played well. They were getting a lot of chances between the dots that we can't be giving up, and she kept us in the game. She played extremely well, we need to be better in front of her."
