Huskies collide with Minnesota State in road set

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey hits the road this weekend for a two-game series at rival Minnesota State on December 10-11. Puck drop at the Mayo Clinic Health Services Event Center is set for 6:00 p.m. CST Friday with the finale scheduled to commence at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

SCSU enters the series slotted in at seventh in the WCHA standings with eight points, just two points behind Minnesota State's fifth-place spot. The Huskies swept Minnesota State over November 5-6 at home, outscoring their rivals 7-3 with an overtime win for a five-point conference weekend. Sanni Ahola had a marvelous showing against the Mavericks, stopping 74 shots with a .961 save percentage. Sophomore center Mackenzie Bourgerie earned her first-ever WCHA Forward of the Week honor by going 2-2-4 and anchoring the top line.
The Huskies are looking to rebound after being swept by Bemidji State at home last weekend. Taylor Lind provided a three-point weekend with two goals on Friday and an assist on Saturday. She along with Emma Gentry and Jenniina Nylund have provided SCSU with an extremely reliable point-getting top line, with Lind (5-12-17, +6) leading in points, Gentry (9-3-12, +6) ahead in goals while Nylund (7-7-14, +8) is second in goals, assists and points. Mackenzie Bourgerie (4-5-9) owns a career-high nine points, finding a home as a playmaking center. On the blue line, Dayle Ross is fifth in the WCHA with 32 blocks while McKenna Wesloh (1-5-6) paces all Huskies defenders in points. Emma Polusny moved to second all-time in Huskies history and joined the 3000 save club on Friday against Bemidji State, currently 77 saves away from tying the program record held by Laura Gieselman. Fellow goalie Sanni Ahola owns Minnesota State over the course of her career, chartering a 4-1-0 record and two shutouts across five starts with a .964 save percentage and a 1.40 goals against average in nearly 300 minutes tending the net.
Minnesota State enters the series 7-9-0 with a 3-9-0 record in WCHA play after a home-and-home sweep of St. Thomas last weekend. The sweep snapped an eight-game losing streak while Jessica Kondas earned WCHA Defender of the Week honors for her three-assist, six-block weekend. Brittyn Fleming leads in points with a 5-16-21 line and has skated to a team-leading +4 while Kelsey King is the leading goal-getter with nine. King (9-5-14) and Charlotte Akervik (4-10-14) are tied for second in points, joined in double-figures by Kennedy Bobyck (5-7-12) and Brooke Bryant (5-5-10). Calla Frank has gone 6-7-0 as MSU's primary tender, working to a 3.15 GAA and while stopping shots at an .894 clip.
St. Cloud State will be idle for the Holiday break before returning to action with the Battle at the Burgh on January 1-2 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Huskies will play Penn State on New Year's Day then take on either Boston University or Syracuse the following day.
