
St. Cloud State Swim & Dive Set to Face St. Johns/St. Bens

Huskies will compete at home starting at 5 p.m. CT Thursday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State Swim & Dive team returns to action for the first time in six weeks on Thursday, Jan. 20, as the Huskies host St. Johns and St. Benedicts at the Halenbeck Hall Pool. Diving events are slated for 5 p.m. CT, with swimming events to follow at 6 p.m. CT. A live feed for the meet can be found through the NSIC Network.
St. Cloud State will compete in lanes 2, 4 and 6, while St. Ben's and St. John's will compete in lanes 1, 3 and 5. Individual events will be scored 9, 4, 3, 2, 1 and relays will be scored 11, 4, 2 based on finish. A max of three individuals can score per event, and a max of two relays can score per event.
The Huskies last competed at the Rochester Invite Dec. 3-5 in Rochester, Minn., where both the men's and women's teams finished second in a field of 11 teams, trailing only D-I Omaha in the standings. A pair of men's school records were broken, as sophomore Raf Hendriks (Berg en Terblijt, Netherlands) broke the 100-yard backstroke school record recording a time 48.19 in a preliminary race. He surpassed Anthony Schwartz, who produced a time of 49.14 at the Rochester Invite on Dec. 1-3, 2017. The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Hendriks, junior Jayden Porter (Bismarck, N.D.), junior Abe Townley (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and sophomore Tjeerd Van Stein (Sasseenheim, Netherlands) set the school record by posting a time of 1:29.42. The team surpassed the 2014 record of 1:29.43 set by Simson, Howell, Burns and Stoll.
For the women, freshman diver Kailey Fossell (Tower, Minn.) qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter dive, finishing sixth with a preliminary score of 390.20 and a finals score of 372.50. Junior Meredith Matchinsky (St. Cloud, Minn.) and graduate Madison Brinkman (Grey Eagle, Minn.) finished first and second in each of the diving events. Brinkman won the 1-meter with a score of 437.50 and finished second in the 3-meter with a score of 440.90, while Matchinsky in the 3-meter with a score of 462.95 and finished second in the 1-meter with a score of 437.50
