Power Play Goals Galore for No. 7 St. Cloud State in Victory over Bemidji State

Miettinen scores twice, Huskies score four power play goals
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 7 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (12-6-0, 4-4-0 NCHC) scored four power play goals en route to a 5-2 win and series sweep over Bemidji State (10-10, 8-4 CCHA) on Saturday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. For the second time in as many games, senior forward Sam Hentges (Fridley, Minn.) scored the first goal of the game for the Huskies, while sophomore forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) recorded a pair of goals.
The Huskies led the nation in power play percentage heading into the weekend, and its lead will only increase after converting 4-of-8 power play chances on Saturday. In the game, 10 Huskies scored, including a team-leading three points (two goals, one assist) from Miettinen.
TURNING POINT
After an even first period where the Huskies and Beavers each scored, St. Cloud State open the game with four consecutive goals in the second period to break the game open. All four goals were scored by the Huskies' third line, its famed "International Line", as Miettinen scored twice while junior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) and junior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) each scored once.

- Hentges scored for the third time in the series in the first period and added an assist on Miettinen's second goal.
- Junior goalie Jaxon Castor (Phoenix, Arizona) got the start in goal and recorded his second victory of the season, making 23 saves between the pipes.
- St. Cloud State's nation-leading power play increased to 35.9 percent (28-of-78) after scoring four power play goals in the game.
- The Huskies have now scored 28 power play goals this season, led by Okabe's six goals with a man-advantage.
- St. Cloud State improved to 11-2-0 when leading after the first period and 11-0-0 when leading after two periods.
- Miettinen recorded his third career two-goal game and matched a career-high with his pair of goals in the second period. He also matched a career-high with three points after adding an assist in the first period.
- Hentges scored two points in the game with a first period goal and a second period assist, marking his fourth multi-point game of the season and the 15th of his career.
- Brodzinski added an assist to move to sole possession of 23rd-place on the all-time D-I scoring list with 114 points, as he passed Jon Cullen (113, 1999-03) and Ben Hanowski (113, 2009-13).
- With a goal and an assist, Krannila recorded the fourth multi-point game of his season and the 12th of his career. The Husky junior now has 51 career points, as he is the 106th player in program history to score 50+ points.
