
Perbix Scores Three Points in No. 6 St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey’s Draw with No. 13 North Dakota

Fighting Hawks pick up two points with shootout victory
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – No. 6 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (14-7-1, 6-5-1 NCHC) and North Dakota (14-10-1, 9-4-1) played to a 3-3 tie, with the Fighting Hawks earning a 1-0 shootout win in four rounds to earn the two points in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference standings. The Huskies took a 3-1 lead into the locker room after the first period, but the Hawks were able to score one goal in the second period and an equalizer in the third.
 
The Huskies and Hawks were each unsuccessful in their first three tries in the shootout before UND's Ashton Calder scored in the fourth round. Graduate forward Kevin Fitzgerald (Hinsdale, Ill.) had one more attempt to even the score, but it hit the post and came out.
 
TURNING POINT
 
The Huskies held a lead for more than 30 minutes before UND's Jake Sanderson walked around the defense and had a wrister find the back of the net at 11:02 in the third period. The Huskies had a few scoring chances in the final minutes of the third period but were unable to score before the clock hit zeros. After a scoreless three-on-three five-minute overtime, North Dakota sealed the shootout victory with a fourth-round goal by Calder.

Next, St. Cloud State will travel out to Denver, Colo., to face No. 5 Denver on Feb. 4-5. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. CT / 7:00 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network, while Saturday's game is slated for 7:00 p.m. CT / 6:00 p.m. MT on NCHC.tv.

- In his final game before the Olympics, senior defenseman Nick Perbix (Elk River, Minn.) led the way for the Huskies, scoring a game-high three points with a goal and two assists.
- Senior forward Micah Miller (Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored a first-period short-handed goal, his nation-leading fourth of the season.
- Sophomore forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) got the scoring started for the Huskies with a first period power play goal.
- The Huskies scored on the power play on the sixth consecutive game and for the 34th time this season. St. Cloud State is now 37.8 percent (34-of-90) on the power play this season, both marks that lead the nation.
- St. Cloud State outscored the Hawks 3-1 in the first period, improving to 33-9 on the season in the game's first 20 minutes.
- Perbix continued his remarkable streak of point scoring with a team-leading three points, one goal and two assists. The Olympian has scored in six of his last eight games, a stretch where he has scored 18 points, three goals and 15 assists.
- On the season, Perbix has a team-leading 20 assists and three goals for 23 points, with ranks second on the team. In his career, Perbix now has 81 points, 19 goals and 62 assists.
- Miller scored his fourth short-handed goal of the season with a goal in the final minute of the first period. No other player in the nation has more than two short-handed goals this season.
- Miller now ranks third in program history in short-handed goals in a season with four, trailing only Mark Hartigan (six, 2001-02) and Brett Lievers (five, 1993-94).
- The shorty goal was Miller's eighth goal overall this season, tied for fourth-most on the season. It was his 22nd career goal on the season.
- As a team, the Huskies now have nine short-handed goals on the season, as the near the program-best mark of 14, which was set in 1993-94.
- Miettinen scored on the power play for the fourth time this season and for the eighth time overall, also tied for fourth on the Huskies. It was Miettinen's 19th career goal.
- Adding assists in the game was graduate defenseman Seamus Donohue (North Oaks, Minn.), senior forward Nolan Walker (Anchorage, Ala.), junior forward Chase Brand (Carver, Minn.) and Fitzgerald.
